There are the discussions on the family life, the personal relationship, and the worldly wisdom in the latter part of GyeokmongYogyeol(written by Lee Yulgok). It is very important to understand the meaning of an art of managing a household, for grasping these discussions. An art of managing a household is the arguments on the principle and the way which manage and control the family life to a healthy level. It may be called home economics. The final goal of family is to achieve its healthiness. The achievement and the maintenance of the healthy family call for the clarity of principle and the practical method on the managing a household. Based on the latest researches, we classify the realms of home economics in the GyeokmongYogyeol, and then make a comparison with the factors of healthy family achievement. Perhaps that comparison is difficult for the reason of the differences of time and values, but there may be a significant comparison because the family is the relatively eternal unit against the changing times in human society and the healthiness also is the universal idea. The realms of home economics in the GyeokmongYogyeol are presented the principle and method of managements, according to the interior and the exterior of family. The interior of family consists of 7 realms namely ① on the principle and economy of family, ② on the rituals, ③ on the brotherliness and filial piety, ④ on the husband and wife, ⑤ on the children, ⑥ on the servant, ⑦ on the properties. The exterior of family consists of 4 realms, that is, ① on the principle and etiquettes of interpersonal relationship, ② on the social intercourses, ③ on the deep friendship, ④ on the reputations, and adding the worldly wisdom. The factors of healthy family presented in the GyeokmongYogyeol may have important implications for our society regarding Confucianism as the foundation of traditional culture. So far reviewed, the factors of healthy family achievements have a universal characteristics, that can be accepted as evidence which home economics in the GyeokmongYogyeol has practical effects.

『격몽요결』의 후반부는 가정생활과 대인관계 및 처세에 대한 논의가 집중되어 있다. 이러한 논의를 파악하기 위해서는 가정(家政)의 의미를 분명하게 이해하는 것이 중요다. 가정(家政)은 가정생활을 건강한 수준으로 관리하고 경영하는 원칙과 방법에 대한 논의이다. 이를 가정학(家政學)이라고 할 수 있다. 가정의 궁극적 목적은 건강성을 성취하는 것이다. 건강한 가정을 성취하고 유지하기 위해서는 원칙이 분명하고, 실현 방법이 효율적이어야 한다. 현대의 연구를 발판으로 삼아, 『격몽요결』에서 제시하는 가정학의 분야를 갈래지어 보고, 건강한 가정을 성취할 수 있는 요인들을 비교해 보았다. 시대와 가치관의 상이함으로 비교가 어려울 수도 있지만, 가정은 시대의 변화에도 불구하고 어느 정도 지속성을 띠고 있는 사회의 기본 단위라는 성격이 있고, 건강성 역시 보편적인 개념이기 때문에 유의미한 비교가 가능하다고 보았다. 『격몽요결』에서 가정학의 분야는 가정의 내외를 기준으로 하여, 경영의 원칙과 방법이 제시되어 있었다. 가정(家政)의 안에는 ① ｢가정의 원칙과 가정 경제에 대하여｣, ② ｢관례와 혼례에 대하여｣, ③ ｢형제의 우애와 효성에 대하여｣, ④ ｢부부에 대하여｣, ⑤ ｢자식에 대하여｣, ⑥ ｢하인들에 대하여｣, ⑦ ｢의식의 중요성에 대하여｣ 등이 있고, 가정(家政)의 밖에는 ① ｢대인관계의 원칙과 예절에 대하여｣, ② ｢사교에 대하여｣, ③ ｢깊은 만남에 대하여｣, ④ ｢평판에 대하여｣ 등이 있으며, 여기에 ‘처세론’이 포함되어 있었다. 『격몽요결』에서 제시되는 건강한 가정의 요인들은 유학을 전통문화의 근간으로 가진 우리사회가 가정의 건강성을 추구하는데 있어서 중요한 시사점을 줄 것이다.
