- Lee, Juyoung. 2015. A Study on the Vowel Changes of Indonesian Rhythmic Reduplication. Korean Journal of Linguistics, 40-1, 135-150. This paper aims to analyze the vowel changes of rhythmic reduplication in Indonesian. This paper shows that the vowel changes of Indonesian rhythmic reduplication can be elucidated explanatorily based on phonesthemes, directionality, locality, maximization, and derived meanings. More specifically, this paper argues that the vowel changes occur grounded on vowel phonesthemes ‘/i/-/a/-/u/' and locality which does not allow changes between /i, (e)/ and /u, o/. In addition, this paper shows that the position of reduplicants is determined by directionality of the vowel changes and their derived meanings. Furthermore, this paper proposes that maximization of vowel changes is required to iconically express diversity. (Hasanuddin University)
