The purpose of this study was to analyze the agricultural literacy level of elementary students following the individual, family, and school variables as well as the influence caused by these variables on the agricultural literacy level of elementary students in order to provide basic data that can support them in growing up as desirable citizens equipped with appropriate comprehension about agriculture in the future. The following conclusion was derived according to the major outcomes of the study. First, the variables which caused the greatest influence on the agricultural literacy level of elementary students were identified as the agricultural education which took place through class subjects and experiential learning. Second, there is a need for elementary schools to develop effective agricultural education programs related to the variables which cause influence on the agricultural literacy level of elementary students as well as provide information about agricultural policies and career domain at the eye-level of elementary students so that they can take interest in news related to agriculture. Third, the variables which caused influence on the agricultural literacy level of elementary students were all individual variables and school variables.

이 연구는 초등학생의 개인, 가정, 학교 변인에 따른 농업문해 수준 및 그 농업문해 수준에 영향을 주는 관련 변인을 분 석하여 향후 초등학생들이 농업에 관해 올바른 이해를 갖춘 바람직한 민주 시민으로 자라나도록 하는데 기초 자료를 제 공하고자 하는 목적을 가지고 있다. 이를 위해서 초등학교 5, 6학년을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 이 연구의 주요 결과에 따라 도출한 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 초등학생의 농업문해 수준에 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 변인은 교과 및 체험학습 등을 통한 농업교육이었다. 이러한 결과로 볼 때, 향후 체계적인 농업문해 프로그램이 개발되고 학교 교육과정에 농업문해와 관련된 교육내용이 많이 포함 된다면 초등학생들의 농업문해 수준을 높일 수 있을 것이다. 둘째, 초등학생의 농업문해 수준에 영향을 주는 변인과 관 련하여 초등학교에서 효과적인 농업교육 프로그램을 개발할 필요가 있으며, 초등학생들이 농업과 관련한 소식에 흥미 를 가질 수 있도록 초등학생의 눈높이에서 농업 관련 정책, 농업과 관련한 진로 영역 등 정보를 제공할 필요가 있다. 셋 째, 초등학생의 농업문해 수준에 영향을 주는 변인은, 모두 개인 변인(농업 소식에 대한 관심도, 농업 및 농업관련직을 희망한 적이 있는지 여부, 재배 및 사육의 경험, 농사의 경험) 및 학교 변인(농업 교육의 경험, 학교 소재지, 실습지의 유 무)이었다.
