This paper deals with some questions on the authors and readers of Korean Old Novel. The focus of this paper is on the following pieces：Honggildong-jeon (The Story of Honggildong), Chunhyang-jeon (The Story of Chunhyang), Kumohsinwha (New Story Written in Mt. Kumoh) by Shisup Kim and Heosaeng-jeon (The Story of Heosang) by Jiwon Park. The authors of the latter two pieces were both prominent figures and the readers of both books were also distinguished scholars of their time. On the contrary, the authors of the Honggildong-jeon and Chunhyang-jeon are unknown and the readers of these stories were ordinary people living in urban areas. However, the previous researches have put them into a single category and not given serious considerations to these differences. I think such perspective on Korean Old Novel should fundamentally revised. In this paper, I emphasized again on the fact that Gyun Heo was not the author of Honggil dong-jeon. Also, I pointed out some of the structural defects of Chunhyang- jeon's formation steps which assert that its origin was Pansori lyrics. In specification, I argued that there are some possibilities Manhwabon Chunhyang-ga could not be a poem written earlier than 1754.

이 논문은 김시습의 『금오신화』와 박지원의 ｢허생전｣ 그리고 『홍길동전』과 『춘향전』 네 작품을 대상으로 한문소설과 한글소설의 작자와 독자 문제를 다룬 것이 다. 최초의 소설이라고 하는 『금오신화』나 ｢허생전｣의 작자는 저명한 지식인이 고, 이 작품을 읽은 독자도 마찬가지로 당대의 명사들이다. 『홍길동전과 『춘향전』의 작자는 알려지지 않은 사람들이고, 이 소설의 독자 또한 마찬가지로 당대 도시 의 서민이다. 이제까지 고소설 연구자들은 한문소설과 한글소설의 이러한 차이를 별로 중요하게 생각하지 않고, 둘을 같은 범주에서 다루었다. 그러나 이러한 고소 설에 대한 시각은 근본적으로 바뀌지 않으면 안 된다. 이 논문에서는 『홍길동전』의 작자가 허균이 아니라는 사실을 다시 한번 강조했고, 또 『춘향전』을 판소리 가 사를 옮겨놓은 것이라고 보는 판소리계소설 도식의 허구를 지적했다. 특히 유진한 의 『만화집』에 실려 있는 ‘만화본 춘향가’가 1754년에 만들어진 시라고 볼 수 없는 몇 가지 가능성을 얘기했다.

本稿は、金時習の<金鰲新話>と朴趾源の許生傳、そして洪吉童傳と春香 傳の四作品を対象に、漢文小説とハングル小説における作者と読者の問題を取り 扱う。最初の小説と見なされる金鰲新話や｢許生傳｣の作者は著名な知識人であ り、この作品の読者もまた同じく当代の名士であった。洪吉童傳と春香傳の 作者は知られざる人々であり、その読者は当時の都市に暮らす庶民であった。これ までの古小説研究者は、漢文小説とハングル小説におけるこのような差異を軽視 し、両者を同一のカテゴリーのものとして捉えてきた。しかし、古小説に対するこ うした視角は根本的に見直されねばならない。本稿では洪吉童傳の作者が許筠 でないという事実を再度強調し、また、春香傳がパンソリの歌詞から派生したも のと見做すパンソリ系小説図式の虚構を指摘した。特に、柳振漢の晩華集に収 録されている＜晩華本春香歌＞が、1754年に作られた詩ではないと考えられる幾つ かの可能性について論じた。
