This paper investigated the impacts of staff professionalism, culture and arts programs, and specialization on the utilization of public libraries measuring the number of books booked out. Especially, we focused on the library administrative system in Korea for public libraries that is divided in two entities, local offices of education and local governments, and investigated if different systems show different relationships between our interested variables and library utilization. The regression results include that the degree of professionalism of staffs and specialization are positively associated with high level of utilization of public libraries, and the relationship between specialization and utilization is greater when the library belongs to local governments' administrative system.

본 연구는 공공도서관의 활용도에 영향을 미치는 여러 요인 중 직원의 전문성과 문화강좌 프로그램, 그리고 특성화 여부가 공공도서관 활용도 측정 지표 중 하나인 이용 책 수에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 특히 이러한 요 인들이 공공도서관의 양대 운영 주체인 지방교육청과 지방자치단체에 대해 상이한 영향력을 가지는가에 대해 조 사하였다. 회귀분석 결과 직원의 전문성이 높고 특성화된 공공도서관은 활용도가 높고, 지방지치단체가 운영하는 공공도서관인 경우에 활용도에 대한 특성화의 효과가 더 높았다.
