This thesis evaluates the novel Perfect Society(1965). What is the significance of this novel in Korean literary history? The author, Moon yoon-seong is not well known. To achieve these aims, more detailed research about this author and the novel is required. Furthermore, the novel requires careful reading to evaluate its literary and aesthetic aspects. The novel itself contains two inner-narratives that reveal the author’s intention more clearly. The first is a novel written by the protagonist Woo Seon-goo, and the other is the narrative provided by a female philosopher. In spite of the fact that inner-narratives are contrary to the methodology of science fiction, this paper argues that they shape the author’s insight, and that when read carefully, the message of the novel is clear. I also examine how the future is imagined in detail. The characteristics and institutions of a future world are imagined and described in contrast to the present day. I name this detailed representation of the future “The Architectonics of the Future.” This novel comprises three layers of narrative whose meaning needs to be analyzed. The huge scale of this novel also needs to be emphasized. It comprised 2000 pages in its original form.

이 논문은 문윤성의 과학소설 『완전사회』가 지닌 소설사적인 의미를 좀더 엄 밀하게 평가하려는 의도에서 씌어졌다. 그러기 위해서는 소설미학적인 측면에서 이 작품을 꼼꼼히 읽을 필요가 있다고 보았다. 이러한 목적에서 먼저 이 소설을 구성하고 있는 세 층위의 서사에 대해 분석 했다. 이를 통해 소설 『완전사회』를 제대로 읽어내려면 이 소설을 ‘미래모험’서 사로 단순화시켜선 안 된다는 사실을 지적했다. 주요 서사 속에 삽입된 두 개의 서사는 작가의 의도를 보다 명확히 보여주는 기능을 맡고 있다. 그 하나가 주인 공인 우선구에 의해 씌어지는 소설 ｢미래전쟁｣이라면, 다른 하나는 그러한 깨달 음을 구체화하는 계기가 되는 ‘철인노파’ 서사다. 표면적으로 이 서사들은 과학 소설로서의 문법에 어긋나는 부분으로 보인다. 하지만 이 부분들이 통합적으로 읽힐 때 소설의 주제를 제대로 파악할 수 있다. 결론적으로 완전사회는 인류 사의 갈등이나 전쟁에서 벗어나서 인류가 완전사회에 이르려면 타자에 대한 깊 은 이해에서 출발해야 한다는 사실을 암시한다. 『완전사회』는 원고지 2,000매 정도의 방대한 분량으로 이루어진 장편서사인데, 문제는 어떤 세부들로 채워졌는가 하는 점이다. 그런 의미에서 이 논문에서는 작 가가 미래를 구체화하는 방식에 대해서 살펴보았고 이를 미래의 건축술이라고 명 명했다. 대체로 H. G. 웰스의 『타임머신』과의 영향관계를 따져보았으며, 이 소설 이 미래세계를 서술하는 방식의 특징을 정리해 보았다. 작가는 미래세계의 테크 놀로지적인 변화를 섬세하게 그리는가 하면 정치, 사회, 문화, 교육, 사법제도 등 에 대한 탐색을 담고자 애쓴다. 이러한 과정을 통해 작가는 미래뿐만 아니라 소설 이 씌어지던 당시의 한국사회에도 유의미한 하나의 대항이념을 제시한다.
