Yeats and Heaney search for “uisneach,” a kind of utopia in their poems. However, the differences in their background create different utopias. Compared with Heaney, Yeats may be more romantic: he can be called a courtly poet or a bard or a celtic shaman or a knight who chases the holy grail. As for Heaney, he searches more for “here” and “now,” based upon a more realistic view of life. Heaney can be seen as an archeologist who digs the miserable Irish history or a wanderer seeking some reconciliation and peace or a scientist projecting objectivity in depicting things or a transcendentalist searching for the spiritual world. To conclude, applying the original meaning of “utopia,” Yeats’s utopia can be called “no place” whereas Heaney’s one can be called “good place.”

예이츠와 히니 두 작가 모두 다른 기질과 역사및 문화 배경으로 인하여 서로 다른 유토피아를 추구한다. 두 작가를 비교해보면 낭만적경향의 예이츠는 과거나 미래 혹은 저 먼 나라를 그린 점에 있어서 ‘지금’ 그리고 ‘현재’라는 실재에 비중을 두는 히니와 다르다. 예이츠를 궁중풍 시인 혹은 켈트의 무당 혹은 기사라 칭한다면 히니는 초기에는 아일랜드 역사를 파헤치는 고고학자, 중기에는 방랑 순수시인, 그리고 후기에는 과학자적 객관주의와 초월주의 시인의 면모를 동시에 보이는 점 때문에 예이츠에 비해 사실적 작가로 평가하게 된다. 그들이 그린 유토피아에 그리스 어원을 적용해보면 예이츠는 ‘어디에도 없는 곳’을 히니는 ‘좋은 곳’을 추구한다는 차이를 발견하게 된다.
