This article is to analysis of the teacher's cognitions about contents of constitutional educationin elementary school curriculum. This article's another purpose is looking for suggestions ormeanings from the results of teacher's cognition about the contents of constitutional education. These suggestions and meanings will provide significant foundation to establish the right directionand composition of contents of constitutional education. Teachers cognized that the education of human rights and fundamental human rights shouldbe in the light of logical connectivity. Teachers cognized that the education of the fundamentalhuman rights and separation of powers principle of government organizations also should be inthe light of logical connectivity. Teachers thought that acquisition of structural knowledge keepingin mind value education also is more important than acquirement of fragmentary knowledge ineducation of government organization. And teachers also thought that case studies are needed tostudy of constitutional education and enrichment of constitutional education in the teacher'straining programs is needed.

본 연구는 현행 초등학교 교육과정에 구성되어 있는 헌법교육 내용에 대한 교사들의 인식을 조사하여 분석한 후 이 결과로 얻을 수 있는 시사점을 정리한 것이다. 교사들의 인식 결과는 현장에서 초등학생들을 대상으로 헌법교육 내용을 지도하여 본 결과를 바탕으로 하여 얻은 결과이기 때문에 향후 헌법교육의 방향 설정과 헌법교육 내용의 구성에 의미 있는 기초를 제공하여 줄 것으로 생각한다. 교사들은 인권과 기본권과의 관계를 고려하여야 하며, 기본권과 통치구조에 대한 교육도 논리적 연계성을 바탕으로 하여 이루어져야 할 것으로 생각하였다. 또 통치구조에 대한 교육에 있어서도 나열적인 지식 교육보다는 가치교육을 염두에 둔 구조적인 지식의 습득을 중요한 것으로 인식하고 있었다. 현재의 헌법교육 내용과 방법에 대한 비판적 시각과 헌법교육을 위한 사례자료의 필요성을 강하게 요구하고 있었고, 교원양성기관에서의 헌법교육 강화를 주장하고 있었다.
