Haseo Kim In-Hu and Gobong Ki Dae-Seung wrote a number of poems singing about the landscapes, water and emotions of their villages while living in neighborhoods on the Hwangryong riverside in the mid-Joseon period. Poetry by Kim In-Hu is characterized by sentimental expressions of simple and natural tastes, and natural views considering the human body as a small world. However, poetry by Ki Dae-Seung is characterized by transcending reality through improvised taste. He did not use metaphors or indirect expression, but as he expressed what he felt directly and in magnanimity, he showed similar characteristics to the Honam poetry circle which was engaged in active and romantic emotion. To look into the images of the Hwangryong riverside in their poetry: Kim In-Hu's poetry implied images of nature as a friendly and splendid shelter, a medium to hope for harmony between all creatures through natural taste, and an image of retreat with which he expressed anger derived from frustrated dreams to the utmost while hiding in his hometown. Ki Dae-Seung's poetry showed images of daily spaces in an easy retirement, an image of spring to accommodate and raise all things and an image as a space of conflict between the way into government service and seclusion. The poetry by both had a number of common elements in ideology and philosophy, but they showed considerably different characteristics as different as their natures and dispositions.

하서 김인후와 고봉 기대승은 조선 중기 황룡강변의 이웃한 마을에 살면서 그 땅의 산수와 정서를 읊어 많은 시 로 남겼다. 김인후 시의 특성을 살펴보면 담박하고 순정한 흥취를 정감 있게 표출하고 있으며, 천인합일(天人合一)의 자연 관을 가지고 있다. 기대승의 시는 김인후에 비해 좀 더 질펀한 만흥에 젖어 현실을 초극하려고까지 하는 특성을 보여준다. 그 감정 역시 비유나 간접적인 방식을 취하지 않고 직설적으로 호탕하게 토로하고 있어 이런 부분에 있어서는 활달하면서 낭만적 감성을 즐겨 나타냈던 호남시단의 특성과 가깝다고 볼 수 있다. 두 사람의 시에 담긴 황룡강변의 이미지를 살펴보면, 김인후 시의 경우는 친근하고 유여한 안식처로서의 이미지 , 자연에서 발한 흥취를 통하여 만물이 함께 어우러지길 소망하는 매개체적 자연의 이미지, 좌절된 꿈으로 인한 울분을 고향산천에 숨어 마음껏 토로하는 은둔지의 이미지가 내포되어 있다. 또한 기대승의 시에는 유유자적한 일상 공간으로서 이미지, 만물을 포용하고 생장시키는 봄의 이미지, 환로와 은둔의 갈등 공간으로서의 이미지가 나타나고 있다. 두 사람의 시는 시공간면에서나 사상 철학적으로 공통점이 많은 것은 사실이지만, 각각의 성정이나 기질적인 차 이만큼이나 다채롭고 상당부분 서로 다른 특성을 가지고 있다.
