- The aim of the paper is to investigate possible differences in thematicprogression patterns between English translations of Korean onlinetourist texts and comparable authentic English texts. To achieve thisgoal, the study adopts Daneš’(1974) and McCabe’s(1999) classification ofthematic progression methods as a basis for analyzing texts collectedfrom Korean and US government tourism websites, using manualcoding with UAM CorpusTool. Data analysis reveal a number ofimportant disparities in thematic progression between the two corpora. The paper discusses these findings and also makes some practicalsuggestions on how to make translated texts more persuasive to thetarget reader in an effort to achieve their intended communicative goals.
