This paper discusses the role of pastor in educational ministry. God has chosen certain men as pastors to preach and teach, to lead and guide, to guard and train all those who believe on Jesus Christ through hearing the gospel. Having enrich those chosen men by His Spirit, God has given them to the church to teach and train believers and prepare them for the work of the ministry unto the edification of entire Body. Equipping God's people for service is clearly the key to Christ's great goal for the church. Equally clear is the fact that in the local church the pastor is the key person in the equipping process. By his attitude and his action, the pastor must clearly indicate his high regard for the total ministry of Christian education in his church. He must emphasize through the pulpit and in public and private statement that the work of the church is done by the combined efforts of its people using their gifts in the development of the ministry. The total educational ministry of the church must be under the general direction and in the spiritual concern of the pastoral leadership. The pastor's role is to equip the saints for the work of ministry and to build up the Body of Christ, according to Ephesians 4:12. At the very heart of the pastor's work is his teaching ministry, which is a part of almost all that he does. Although many share in the instructional life of the church, the pastor is the chief teacher. He must teach and train others that they might be able to teach and lead. The church program must be integrated by the pastor - his vision, his love for Christ and the people, his enthusiasm, his efficiency - those will determine the course of the church's ministry. The pastor must remember that he is pastor of all the organizations. The pastor must be a good supervisor. And he should have good character and qualifications as a pastor. Great objective in educational ministry is the birth, growth, and maturation of believers in the church of Jesus Christ. The sole objective, which includes all other objectives, is to bring people into vital relationship with Jesus Christ. Whatever is necessary in the accomplishment of that great task is of vital concern to the pastor.

교육목회란 목회의 다양한 차원들을 교육적 견지에서 이해하고 성도와 교회의 성 숙을 도모하는 목회철학이요 그 실천이라고 말할 수 있을 것이다. 목사는 하나님의 말씀을 선포하고 증거하는 설교자임과 아울러 그 말씀을 상황에 따라 적절하게 잘 가 르쳐야 하는 교사이기 때문에 기독교 교육에 관한 깊은 이해가 있어야 한다. 담임목 사는 지도자들과 팀웍을 이루어 일해야 하지만 그의 목회를 교육적 차원에서 총괄해 야 한다. 교육목회의 사역이 기초되지 않을 때 목회는 장애에 부딪히게 될 것이다. 목사는 교인들에게 기독교 교육이란 단지 교회에서 실시되어야 할 분야일 뿐만 아 니라 교회와 그 사역에 대하여 실질적인 근거와 토대를 마련해 준다는 사실을 반드시 주지시켜야 한다. 목사는 성도들로 하여금 교회를 위하여 사역과 봉사를 하고 그리스 도의 몸을 세울 수 있도록 그들을 준비시켜 주는 역할을 수행해야 한다. 물론 교회의 교육사역에는 많은 사람들이 헌신하고 있기는 하지만 목사야말로 가장 중요한 교사의 위치를 차지하고 있다. 목사는 자기가 가르친 사람들이 그와 마찬가지로 남을 가르치 도록 교육하고 훈련할 수 있어야 한다. 교회의 전체적인 교육목회는 일반적인 방향과 목사의 목회지도력의 영적 관심 하 에 시행되어야 한다. 목사는 교회의 목적과 목표에서 기초된 분명하고 성경적이며 초 점이 있는 사명의 진술을 세우는데 주도적인 역할을 해야 한다. 교회의 전체 프로그램은 목사에 의해서 통합되어야 한다. 그의 비전과 그리스도와 교인들에 대한 사랑, 그의 열정과 능력 등 이러한 모든 것들이 교회사역의 과정을 결정하게 만든다. 목사 는 자기 자신이 교회내의 모든 조직의 관리 책임자라는 사실을 명심해야 한다. 목사 는 훌륭한 감독관의 역할까지도 수행해 낼 수 있어야 한다. 목사로서 갖추어야 할 자 질은 독실한 신앙, 내적 인격 개발, 일반적인 교양, 전문적인 지식과 기술의 학습, 적 절한 감정과 태도의 개발 등이다. 자질을 준비하는 문제는 몇 가지 기능을 습득하는 것을 말하는 것이 아니라 전인적인 자질의 준비를 의미한다. 교육목회의 위대한 과업 의 성취에 있어 목사의 관심은 절대적이다.
