God’s church is glorious and beautiful. But the Korean churches are just like a rock salt lost its taste. The Korean society does not trust its churches any more, because they are not showing their holiness, nor acting as transforming agent. The more she is losing her glories, the more the number of her membership is declining. To overcome these situations pastors and elders of the Korean churches should lower the threshold of their church building, and make higher the threshold of their church. It means that the church leaders open its main gate widely in order that many new comers rush into the church building. And they should raise up the standards of baptism and appointing church officers. This article suggests some practical solutions related to the functions of the church, that is, worship, fellowship, education, evangelism and mission, and minister(diakonia). That is, managing her membership squarely, educating candidates for baptism and church officers, opening classes of Bible study and catechism, administering the Lord’s supper more frequently and meaningfully, and training officers to own servant’s heart. They help the Korean churches grow in numbers and in quality with overcoming her depressed situation in quality as well as quantity.

하나님의 교회는 아름답고 영광스럽다. 그러나 오늘날 한국교회는 맛을 잃은 돌소금과 같이 한국사회에서 신뢰를 잃고 있으며, 세상을 변화시키는 역할을 수행하지 못하고 있다. 이러한 교회의 질적인 저하에 따라 한국교회는 수적인 면에서도 침체의 위기를 만나고 있다. 이를 타개하는 방안이 “교회당 문턱은 낮추고, 교회의 문턱은 높여라.”이다. 교회당 문턱을 낮춘다는 것은, 교회의 다섯 가지 기능인 예배, 교제, 교육, 전도와 선교, 그리고 봉사를 통해서 더욱 많은 사람들을 교회당 안으로 불러들이는 것이다. 교회 문턱을 높이는 방안으로 다음의 것들을 제시한다. 교회원 관리를 철저히 하고, 세례 교육과 직분자 교육을 충실하게 시행하며, 성경공부와 교리공부를 강화하고, 신자들이 세상과 구별된 삶을 살도록 성찬식을 자주 그리고 의미 있게 갖고, 직분은 섬김을 위한 것임을 인식하게 만든다. 한국교회는 이웃들을 전도하며 교회로 인도함으로써 침체를 극복해야 하며, 거룩한 교회가 됨으로써 세상에 하나님의 영광을 드러내는 교회가 되어야 한다.
