Domestic and overseas consumers requiring rehabilitation devices to improve quality of life such as those disabled or suffering from paralyzed limbs due to spinal injuries and strokes have increased in the past years as the use and benefits of these devices have also increased. In some developed countries, diverse devices supporting movement and rehabilitation of persons with severe disabilities have been developed and commercialized, but not a particular case has been promoted in Korea. No relevant evaluation technology has been prepared as well. Therefore, difficulties in future permit examination is foreseen. The permit examination needs to be urgently supported by developing Evaluation Guidelines for Ensuring Performance and Safety of Lower Limb Rehabilitation System Coupled with Wheelchair (draft) in order to help the disabled suffering from spinal cord injury, stroke, and other severe disabilities who cannot exercise lower limb and conduct rehabilitation by themselves. This study is to prepare the performance and safety evaluation items for the motorized wheelchair with added lower limb exercise functions in line with the international standards and to review the relevant feasibility of fabricating Guidelines (draft) for supporting the examination process and for promoting manufacturing of medical device satisfying the international standards.

상하지가 마비된 척수손상 장애인, 뇌졸중 장애인 등 삶의 질을 개선하기 위해 재활 훈련기기를 필요로 하는 수요자가 국내·외에서 매년 증가하는 추세에 있다. 해외 일부 선진국에서는 중증 장애인의 이동과 재활훈련을 보조 해 주는 다양한 장치에 대한 연구개발 및 상용화가 진행 중이나, 국내에서는 연구대상 제품에 대한 사례가 없고 안 전성 및 성능 평가 기술이 마련되지 않아 향후 허가심사에 어려움이 있을 것으로 예상된다. 따라서, 독립적으로 하지 운동 및 재활 훈련이 거의 불가능한 척수손상 장애인 및 뇌졸중 장애인 등 중증 장애인을 위한 휠체어결합형 하지재 활훈련시스템의 안전성 및 성능 평가 가이드라인을 개발하여 신속한 허가심사가 이루어지도록 평가기준 및 방법이 필 요한 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 하지재활운동 기능이 추가된 전동식휠체어에 대한 안전성 및 성능 평가 항목을 국제 규격에 부합하게 마련하고, 시험검사를 통해 그 타당성을 검토하여 가이드라인을 마련하였으며, 이를 통해 신속한 허 가·심사를 지원하고 국제 규격에 부합하는 의료기기를 생산하는데 도움이 될 것으로 기대된다.
