Yuseo is a traditional reference information resource which is complied with concerned data of a various books and edited by type or character of such data. This study was conducted with the aim of studying compilation and classification of China’s Yuseo. First, Yuseo’s compilation and characteristics of compilation by period, which covers times from the compilation of the first Yuseo called Hwangram until Qing Dynasty, were examined. Second, as for compilation of Yuseo, classification by period, classification by classification method, and classification by types were analyzed as historical classification. With regard to modern classification, this study included classification by modern libray classification in addition to classification by editing and compilation, classification by content arrangment, and classification by scope. This study proposed establishment of a separate classification item in that library classification of Korea and Japan classifies Yuseo as part of encyclopedia in their library classifications. And this study also described the value and importance of Yuseo as the reference information source in modern times.

유서는 각종 전적 중의 관련 자료를 집록하고 유별 또는 자별 등으로 편집한 전통적 참고정보원이다. 이 연구는 중국의 유서를 대상으로 편찬과 분류에 대한 고찰을 목적으로 진행하였다. 첫째, 삼국시대에 편찬된 최초의 유서 『황람(皇览)』이래 청대까지의 시대별 유서의 편 찬과 편찬의 특징을 살폈다. 둘째, 유서의 분류의 경우 우선 역사적 분류로서 시대별 분류와 분류법별 분류와 유별 분류를 분석하였다. 현대적 분류의 경우 편집과 편찬에 의한 분류와 내용 배열방식에 따른 분류 그리고 수록범위에 따른 분류 외에 현대의 문헌분류법에 의한 분류를 살폈다. 한국과 일본의 문헌분류법의 경우 유서를 백과사전과 함께 분류하고 있어 별도의 분류 항목 구축의 필요성을 제기하고, 현대에 있어서의 유서의 참고정보원으로서의 가치와 중 요성을 기술하였다.
