The history of the ROK military's female officers become 64th anniversary in 2015 with the Era of ten thousand female officers. The female officers have developed magnificently in its numbers as well as quality. They work for almost all branches in the military, however, the ROK military is not ready for the growing numbers. The examples of US and other advanced countries show that the ratio of female officers is more than 10 percent and restricted areas became open to the female. Based on the foreign cases, we need to prepare for the new Era. First of all, all personnel in the military need to think that women are coworkers or subordinate with common goals for the nation and the people. Moreover they need to be educated on proper sexual role in the military. Men and women should not be discriminate but they need to understand the fact that they are different from each other. Second, it is important for female officers to have chances to be promoted to upper ranks. It will give them motive to throw their passion to the military life. Third, it is hard to find that female officers go to the operation or information related title. Soft and delicate women leadership will distribute to the improvement and reinforcement of combat power. Fourth, married female officers have difficulties in having babies and raising children. They need lawful and systematic support to sustain their families and to focus on military tasks. Fifth, there should be more studies on how to use female personnel in the military, comparing foreign cases. Sixth, reserve force should be enlarged to female officers in order to play a role in national security. They are good enough to deal with emergency and wartime situation because they already experienced many circumstances during their services.

2015년이면 대한민국 여군 창설 65주년을 맞으며, 여군 1만명 시대에 돌입하게 된다. 수적으로나 질적으로 비약적인 발전을 하게 된 여군은 군내 거의 모든 병과에 배치되 어 많은 활약을 하고 있다. 미국, 영국 등 여성 인력을 활용하는 외국군의 사례를 보면 여군의 비율은 전체 병력의 10%에 이르고 있으며, 여군에게 제한됐던 많은 직위가 개 방되고 있다. 외국군 사례를 바탕으로 우리 군은 늘어나는 여군 인력에 대한 효율적 운영방안을 모색할 필요가 있다. 첫째, 여군을 국방을 함께 지켜 나가는 직장 동료이자 전우로 생각하는 분위기가 마련 되어야 한다. 아울러 철저한 성 인지력 향상교육을 통해 남녀의 차이보다 다름을 인정 하는 인식을 정착시킬 필요가 있다. 둘째, 여군의 수적인 증가만이 아니라 한국군의 핵심전력이 될 수 있도록 능력에 따라 다양한 병과에서 고위직으로 진출할 수 있는 진급의 기회를 주어야 여군들이 더 큰 포 부를 갖고 군 생활에 매진할 수 있을 것이다. 셋째, 병과의 벽은 무너졌으나 부드럽고 섬세한 여성의 리더십을 작전, 정보 등 전투 계획 및 수행 분야 등에도 적극 적용해 군의 전투력 운용과 강화에 기여토록 해야 할 것이다. 넷째, 기혼 여군, 부부군인의 출산과 아동 양육 부담 등을 덜어줄 수 있는 다방면의 지원, 예를 들면 법, 제도를 개선 해 나가야 보다 안정적인 가정생활을 영위하며 군 생활 에 집중할 수 있을 것이다. 다섯째, 외국군에서 여군을 활용하는 다양한 방안들을 비교하여 우리 군에 적용토록 연구 수행의 투자와 지원을 지속적으로 해 나갈 필요가 있다. 여섯째, 국가안보의 최일선에서 군을 직접 경험한 여성 인력들이 전역 후에도 국가안 보의 일익을 담당할 수 있도록 전·평시 예비전력 자원으로 활용할 제도적 장치를 확대 해야 할 것이다.
