The objective of this study was to identify the stylistic characteristics of university students’ writings by academic division through examining the pattern of lexical use for each part of speech adopted by the students in their personal narratives. There are a number of issues related to research on writing in Korean universities, and one of the most interesting of those is writing education as characterized by division. Until now, however, there has been no remarkable progress other than training in different types of text for each division. This study assumed that effective writing education by division should consider the stylistic characteristics of writing by students in each division. For this, it is necessary first to analyze students’ writing styles. In this study, we explored students’ stylistic characteristics by division, focusing on their pattern of lexical use for each part of speech.

이 연구에서는 공학 계열과 예술 계열 대학생의 자기서사문을 분석하였다. 주로 글에서 사용된 품사별 어휘 양상을 주목하여 분석한 결과 계열별로 다음과 같은 차별성이 있다는 것을 알게 되었다. 우선, 예술 계열은 다양한 품사를 상대적으로 고르게 사용하는 경향이 있다. 다음으로, 공학 계열은 직접적 표 현에 유리한 품사의 사용을 선호하는 경향이 있다. 끝으로, 예술 계열은 정교한 표현에 유리한 품사의 사용을 선호하는 경향이 있다는 것이다. 이러한 연구 결과는 계열별로 수업이 진행되고 있는 대학 글쓰기에 유의미한 자료가 된다. 계열별 글쓰기 교 육에서 대학생들의 어휘 사용 양상을 고려한 글쓰기 교육을 해야 할 것으로 본다.
