This study aims to investigate the validity of the KBS Korean Proficiency Test, particularly concerning whether its listening comprehension test accurately evaluates the listening ability of examinees, and to provide an alternative to improve the validity of listening comprehension tests. This paper points out that the KBS Korean Proficiency Test is based upon thinking skills such as factual, critical, and inferential comprehension, and also classifies listening ability into grammatical, socio-linguistic, tactical, and conversational abilities. This paper, through analysis of the items on the test, also criticizes the fact that there are too many items related to factual comprehension, and also that the items are far too easy. It also argues that visual media should be incorporated into the evaluation process in order to improve the validity of the test. The current method of evaluation which only relies on audio, makes it impossible to grasp the non-verbal aspects of speech, and thus restricts the items to a specific style. In order to improve the validity of the KBS Korean Proficiency Test, various evaluation methods must be developed.

이 연구는 KBS한국어능력시험의 듣기 문항이 응시생의 듣기 능력을 올바르게 평가하는지 타당도를 검증하고, 듣기 평가의 타당도를 개선할 수 있는 방안을 제시하는 데 목적이 있다. 이 논문에서는 KBS한국어능력시험의 평가 요소가 사실적 이해, 비판적 이해, 추론적 이해 등과 같이 사고력 중심으로 이루어졌다는 점을 지적하고, 듣기 능력을 문법적 능력, 사회 언어적 능력, 전략적 능력, 담화능력으로 구성하였다. 듣기 평가 문항 분석을 통해서는 사실적 이해를 평가하는 문항이 지나치게 많다는 점과 지나치게 쉬운 문항이 많다는 점을 비판하였다. 또한 듣기 평가 방법을 개선하기 위해서는 영상매체를 활용한 평가가 이루어져야 함을 주장하였다. 음성만 듣고 답을 선택하는 현행 평가 방법으로는 비언어적 요소 파악이 어렵기 때문에 제한된 시험 문제가 양산되고 있다. KBS한국어능력시험의 타당도를 높이기 위해서는 다양한 평가 도구의 개발이 시급하다.
