We have to pay attention on Korean language education now as the foreign learners for Korean language are increased consistently and many studies on teaching methods and material development have to be performed. Therefore, this study is purposed to provide the education method for actual teaching-education method and diversified activities by utilizing an essay which is one of the literature genre while asserting the necessity of the integrated education of language and culture in Korean language education for foreign learners. Firstly, it is to strengthen the study motivation which is consistent with the ultimated education target of Korean education, i.e. culturing the communication ability by understanding Korean culture through the foreign learners’ understanding on the differences between native culture and Korean culture. In addition, this study has a meaning for a method to solve the problems of lacking the fresh data and no variety in utilizing the learning tools in the field. The literal works reflect the life and culture of the human living at that age and have universalism. There are literal categories like the poem, novel and essay and literature works handling the universal subjects like the love, wisdom, friendship and good triumphing over the evil in any country. Especially, the essay can play the role of entry stage of apprehending the literature works. It is available as a catalyst to have interest on the study and apprehending the literature gradually. It is considered as a valuable material to integrate and educate the language and culture simultaneously by improving the communication ability via the language alive. Here, the essay of written by Hyo Sun Eoh was selected based on the discussion by the precedent scholars. The class model was suggested to the foreigner learners for integrated education of language and culture. In the respect of cultural study, the possibility of real integrated education was explored such as the solving the cultural stress of the learner and improving the mutual culture ability across Korean lifestyle and mental world according to three categories.

한국어를 공부하는 외국인 학습자들의 수가 꾸준히 증가함에 따라 이제 우리는 한국어교육에 대해 많은 관심을 기울여 야 하며 창의적인 교수 방법 및 자료 개발에도 활발한 연구가 이루어져야 한다. 이에 본고는 외국인 학습자를 대상으로 하는 한국어교육에서 언어와 문화의 통합 교육에 대한 필요성을 역설하면서, 문학 장르 중 하나인 수필을 활용하여 실 제적 이며 다채로운 활동이 가능한 교육 방안을 마련하는 데 목적이 있다. 일차적으로는 원활한 의사소통능력 배양이라 는 한국어교육의 궁극적인 교육 목표와도 부합하며, 외국인 학습자가 모국 문화와 한국의 문화에서 오는 차이의 인식을 통해 한국의 문화 현상을 이해함으로써 학습 동기 강화에 도움을 주고자 한다. 또한 현장에서 참신한 자료의 부재와 학 습 도구의 활용 면에서 다채롭지 못하다는 문제를 해결하기 위한 방안으로 연구의 의의를 찾을 수 있겠다. 문학 작품은 그 시대를 살고 있는 인간의 삶과 문화를 반하고 보편성을 갖는다. 어느 나라에나 시나 소설, 수필과 같은 문학 갈래가 있고, 사랑, 지혜, 우정, 권선징악과 같은 보편적인 주제를 다룬 작품이 있다. 특히 수필은 문학 작품을 감상 하는 입문 단계로서의 역할을 할 수 있으며 창작 활동을 위한 촉매제의 역할을 가능하게 하고, 살아있는 언어를 통해 의 사소통능력을 향상시켜 언어와 문화를 동시에 통합하여 교육할 수 있는 값진 자료로 판단된다. 여기에서는 기존의 학자들의 논의를 바탕으로 어효선의 <남의 옷>이라 는 수필을 선정하여 외국인 학습자를 대상으로 언어와 문화의 통합적 교육을 위한 수업 모형을 제시하다. 언어학습 측면에서는 어휘 및 관용 어 학습을 중심으로 읽기 교육에 중요성을 두었으며, 문화학습 측면에서는 세 가지 범주에 따라 한국인의 생활양식부터 정신세계로까지 두루 살 펴 학습자의 문화 스트레스 해소 및 상호문화적 능력 향상, 창작 활동 배양 등 진정한 통합 교육의 가능성을 모색하였다.
