This article is to study on rhythm of In a Room of Bak Si-Bong at Yu-dong, South Sin-Uiju( 남신의주유동박시봉방 ) by Baek Seak by focusing on the sound-meaning(prosodie). Up to now, many of studies on the rhythm in Baek Seak's poetry have focused on characteristics of sentences or replacements of lines. Most Baek Seak's poetry consisted of long sentences which is hard to explain with syllabic meter or meter of feet. So, it has been deficient to try to analysis the rhythm of Baek Seok's poetry. If rhythm of Baek Seok's poetry could be called ‘inner rhythm’ only, it would make the rhythm of poetry as a mysterious thing and something can't be studied. We can be aware of not only beauty of meaning but also beauty of music of In a Room of Bak Si-Bong at Yu-dong, South Sin-Uiju( 남신 의주유동박시봉방 ). This poem make the Reader approach to “hard and clean Davurian Buckthorn(굳고 정한 갈매나 무)” by rhythm. This article is focusing on original meaning of rhythm, that is rhythm as ‘flow’. In this article, ‘rhythm’ is music of poetry that can't be separated to meaning. That is, the rhythm consist of units of sound-meaning and echoes of concentric circles. The study of rhythm by this concept make the study which integrates esthetic characters(music, sound) and intellectual characters(meaning) of poetry. ‘A sound-meaning’ is the basic unit for the study on the rhythm and consist of articulation(segment system). A articulation(segment system) is a spot that contained sound-meaning repeatedly and has meaningful accent. On this study, rhythm of In a Room of Bak Si- Bong at Yu-dong, South Sin-Uiju( 남신의주유동박시봉방 ) was analyzed through articulations and continuities.

이 논문은 백석 시 ｢南新義州柳洞朴時逢方｣의 리듬을 소리-뜻(prosodie) 중심으로 분석한 논문이다. 지금까지 많은 백석 시의 리듬 연구, 또는 운율 연구는 백석 시의 구문적 특성에 집중하거나 또는 행갈이에 집중한 연구가 대부분이었다. 같은 문장 성분의 반복이나 시어의 병렬을 통해 형성 되는 리듬을 연구하는 논문도 다수 있었다. 백석 시는 기존 음수율이나 음보율로는 설명하기 힘든 긴 문장으로 구성된 시편들이 대다수이기 때문에 백석 시 리듬 연구에서는 외형적으로 재단하여 리듬을 찾으려는 노력조차 미미하였다. 백석 시의 리듬을 ‘내재율’이라고 말한다면, 시의 리듬을 신비화시키며 연구 불가능한 것으로 상정하는 결과만을 낳는다. ｢南新義州柳洞朴時逢方｣의 아름다움은 내용적인 측면뿐만 아니라 음악성에도 있음이 분명히 감지된다. ｢南新義州柳洞朴時逢方｣은 힘있는 물결, 즉, 시의 리듬을 통해 독자를 “굳고 정한 갈매나무”로 이끌어 간다. 이 논문에서는 리듬 본연의 의미, 즉, ‘흐름’으로서의 리듬에 집중하여 연구하였다. 이 논문에서 다루어진 ‘리듬’은 음수율과 음보율로 대표되는 전통적인 운율론에서 말해지는 리듬과는 다소 다른 개념으로 음악성이 시의 의미와 분리되지 않는 것을 주요 속성으로 한다. 즉, 소리-뜻의 분절체와 연속체를 기본으로 한 소리와 의미의 동심원적인 울림으로 이루어지는 리듬이다. 이와 같은 개념에 의한 리듬 연구는 시를 연구의 수단으로 가치 절하시키는 것이 아니라, 시 자체를 목적으로 두고 그 미적인 속성(음악성, 소리)과 지적인 속성(의미, 뜻)을 통합한 분석을 가능케 한다. 이 논문에서는 ｢南新義州柳洞朴時逢方｣에서 소리의 유사(類似)반복이나 유음(類音)반복을 중심으로 분절체와 연속체를 파악하여 리듬을 분석하였다.
