The purpose of this study is to clarify the characteristics and practices of social studies education focusing on current teaching experiences practiced in the classroom lessons of Suita and Kansai university attached elementary and middle school in Japan. For this purpose, we try to analyze the characteristics and practical teaching cases of social studies lessons in Suita and Kasai university attached elementary and secondary school. We also try to explore the educational logics for international understanding involved in Japanese social studies education in the viewpoint of global citizenship education. This study has been conducted in four dimensions as follows. Firstly, we tried to examine the goals of elementary and secondary social studies education established by the Japanese education authorities, and then we dealt with whether any problems were revealed in terms of education for international understanding. Secondly, we investigated the situation and practices of Japanese social studies classroom lessons in the side of the on-site education. Thirdly, on the basis of this discussion, we reviewed the practical characteristics of education for international understanding performed in Suita and Kansai university attached primary and secondary school social studies classroom. Fourthly, we looked for the point of view of Japanese social studies teachers surrounding the relationship between Korea and Japan. Furthermore, we made an effort to suggest a desirable future-oriented relationship between the two countries.

이 연구의 목적은 일본 내 스이타시립 및 간사이대부설 학교의 초중등 사회과교육에서 실시되는 현장수업의 측면에 주목하여 일본 사회과교육의 현장적 특징을 드러내는 데 둔다. 이를 위해, 스이타시립 및 간사이대부설 학교의 초중등 사회과 교실수업의 실제와 특징을 분석하고, 이를 토대로 사회과교육에 드러난 국제이해교육의 논리를 세계시민 교육의 관점에서 밝히려 하였다. 연구는 다음의 네 가지 차원에서 진행되었다. 첫째, 일본교육 당국에서 설정한 초중등 사회과교육의 목표를 밝히고, 국제이해교육의 측면에서 어떤 문제점을 드러내는지를 검토한다. 둘째, 스이타시립 및 간사이대부설 초중등학교에서 실시되는 사회과 교실수업의 상황과 실제를 현장차원에 초점을 두어 살펴본다. 셋째, 이에 근거하여 그곳 초중등학교 사회과교실에서 이루어지는 국제이해교육의 실천적 특징에 대해서도 검토한다. 넷째, 한일관계를 둘러싼 일본 사회과교사들의 관점을 밝히고 바람직한 미래 한일관계에 대해 제시한다.
