To analyze and compare the Export Competitiveness of Korea to Japan in IT industry, this paper researches the trade structure between Korea and Japan by extracting trade index through objective and coordinated competitive analysis. The results can be summarized as follows, for the trade structure of IT industry between Korea and Japan. First, the total amount of whole world’s export and import increased 7.73% and 7.5% from year 2000 to year 2009. Korea showed the increase of 8.65% and 8.09%, in export and import growth rate, Japan, however, appeared its export and import growth rate as 2.16% and 4.24% respectively, which are lower than the world average export and import growth rate. Second, so far, Japan has shown the trade surplus to Korea. Third, Korea made the increase in export and import in IT industry from 2000 to 2009. Japan had shown lower increase rate than Korea. Fourth, the weight of IT in the whole industry for Korean export and import was doubled from 2000 to 2009. Also, IT industry growth rate was the highest in the whole industry in Korea’s export and import. And, the technology and communications took the second position in Korea’s industry.

본 연구의 목적은 IT산업을 중심으로 한‧일 무역구조를 구체적으로 분석하여 양국 간의 경쟁력에 대한 우위를 살펴보고자 한다. 또한 이 연구는 HS 6단위로 분류한 자료를 이용한 IT산업 전체에 대한 엄밀한 분석이라는 점에서 기존의 연구와 차별성을 가진다고 하겠다. 분석기간은 데이터 입수문제로 인하여 2000년부터 2009년까지로 하였으며, 수출입 데이터는 UN COMTRADE에서 직접 추출하였다. 한‧일 간 IT통계를 이용하여 무역특화지수, 현시비교우위지수 등의 일반화된 무역지수를 이용한 분석에는 한계가 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 객관적인 경쟁력 분석방법과 조정된 새로운 분석방법을 통해 무역지수를 추출하여 한‧일 간의 무역구조를 분석한 다음 한국 IT산업의 對일본 경쟁력을 품목별로 고찰한다. 그리하여 어떠한 품목에서 한국이 경쟁력 우위 또는 열위를 점하고 있는지 살펴봄으로서 총체적인 경쟁력을 분석하는 것이다.
