This paper is designed to introduce the historical meaning of the Korea-Japan Undersea Tunnel and the Bering Strait Project. The construction of a bridge and tunnel in the Korea-Japan Strait and the Bering Strait requires inter-state cooperation and the commitment of religious, political, commercial and financial institutions at the highest level. The realization of the Korea-Japan Tunnel and the Bering Project would contribute to the furtherance of international cooperation, the strengthening of world economy and the realization of world peace. This research considers the two tunnel projects within the context of an emerging global transportation network and finds that they are vital missing links. Implementing the projects will contribute to a more balanced global energy and resource economy; the reduction of North American trade and competitive disadvantages; and enhanced cohesion and competitiveness in Northeast Asia. Above all, the projects is a mega-project to link two continents of Eurasia and America, and two worlds of Pax-Americana and Pax-Sinica. The projects would give an opportunity of Korean reunification and prosperity.

이 글은 베링해저터널프로젝트와 한일해저터널프로젝트의 역사적 의의를 살피고 있다. 우 선 두 터널의 연결은 두 세계의 연결을 의미한다. 한국과 일본, 그리고 미국과 러시아의 연 결이다. 베링의 경우, 유라시아와 아메리카 대륙의 연결, 팍스 아메리카나 시대와 팍스 시니 카 시대의 연결을 의미한다. 철도 르네상스 시대에 세계를 글로벌 물류망으로 연결하려는 메카프로젝트이다. 인류의 마지막 자원의 보고인 시베리아 개발이 가능해질 것이고, 이를 위해 4대 강국을 비롯한 광범위한 국제협력이 필요할 것이다. 그 개발은 환경친화적이고 미 래지향적이어야 한다. 두 프로젝트는 한반도의 통일과 동아시아의 통합에는 물론, 세계평화 에 크게 기여할 것이다. 한국과 한민족은 시베리아 개발에 참여함으로써 새로운 기회를 얻 게 될 것이다.
