Music in film is a sound effect and background music or leads story structure. Music could not be better in presenting scenes, substances and mental status of main characters, and even maximizing them or helping story flow. In addition, music itself is sometimes the heart of movie, beyond its supplementary role, in musical film. The study is about the Korea’s first musical film (1949), which was acclaimed by many with its newly created music and story. The movie presented its story mainly with music, especially with newly composed ones unlike other films produced in those days, whose soundtracks were mainly composed of already existing recorded ones. Before reviewing the movie, it researched the persons who are related with the movie music after the Korea’s Liberation until the year of 1953 when the Truce of the Korean War and what implications has. In addition, it seeks to understand the meaning of the movie through the scores of the movie’s main theme, . It has been limited as the movie was not preserved, but the part of the movie has been reviewed based on the scores and related materials of the main theme. The Korea’s first musical film , which was made by young Koreans in difficult situations, was consisted of newly composed songs and completed with the simultaneous recording with 50 orchestra members. As the main theme implies, simple melody reminds many people in the still confusing times even after the liberation of hope and nostalgia, which is surely of precious values the soundtrack and all general film music have.

영화에서 음악은 음향효과로서의 역할, 배경음악으로서의 역할, 이야기의 구조를 끌어가는 역할 등을 한다. 또한 영화의 장면과 내용, 인물들의 심리 표현을 더 나아가 극대화하는데 음악 이상의 것은 없을 것이다. 음악이 영화의 보조적 역할을 넘어서서 영화 이야기 속의 중심에 자리 잡을 때 이것을 ‘음악영화 ’라 일컫는다. 본 논문에서는 새롭게 창작되어진 음악과 이야기를 가지고 많은 이들의 사랑을 받은 한국 최초의 음악 영화 <푸른언덕>(1949)을 중심으로 한국음악영화에 대해 연구해보았다. 그 당시 대부분의 영화들은 기 성 레코드음악에서 선별하여 음악을 구성하였지만 <푸른언덕>은 영화음악을 창작되어진 새로운 음악 들로 구성하고 음악이야기를 주제로 한 작품이다. 이 영화를 살펴보기에 앞서, 해방 후부터 한국전쟁 이 후 휴전한 1953년까지의 영화 속 음악과 관련된 인물들에 대해 알아보고, <푸른언덕>이 어떤 의미를 갖 는지 고찰해 보고자 하였다. 또한 이 영화의 주제가인 <푸른언덕>의 악보를 통해 이 영화의 의미를 되 새겨 보았다. 영화 <푸른언덕>의 필름이 보존되어 있지 않아 연구하는데 한계점을 보였으나 주제가의 악보와 여러 자료들을 토대로 영화의 일부분을 고찰해보았다. 열악한 환경 속에서 젊은 영화인들이 하나가 되어 만 들어낸 한국 최초의 음악영화 <푸른언덕>은 새롭게 창작된 곡들로 구성되어 있고 이 음악들을 50명의 오케스트라 단원들과 함께 동시녹음을 통해 완성했다는 것, 그리고 주제가에서 알 수 있듯이 해방을 맞 이했지만 여전히 혼란스러운 그 당시 많은 이들에게 선율을 통해 희망과 향수를 일깨워줬다는 것이 이 영화가 갖는, 그리고 이 영화의 음악이 갖는 중요한 의의이다.
