The purpose of this study was to investigate the mediation effect of children’s social competences in the relation between parents’ parenting attitude and children’s school adjustment. The participants were 543 5th and 6th graders from 24 elementary schools located in Seoul, Incheon and Gyeonggi. For this research, parents’ parenting attitude scale, children’s social competences inventory and the school adjustment scale were administered. Correlation analysis was performed in order to examine the relationship among variables, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis was conducted to analyze the data. The results were as follows. Firstly, as the result of the correlation analysis, care in parents’ parenting attitude showed positive correlation with children’s social competences and children’s school adjustment. However, overprotection in parents’ parenting attitude showed negative correlation with children’s social competences and children’s school adjustment. Secondly, the result of a hierarchical regression analysis showed that children’s social competences partially mediated the relationship between parents’ parenting attitude and children’s school adjustment. Implications and limitations of the current study were described.

이 연구는 부모의 양육태도와 아동의 학교생활 적응의 관계에서 아동의 사회적 역량이 매개 효과를 가지는지 확인해 보는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 서울, 경기, 인천지역의 24개 초등 학교 5, 6학년 아동 543명을 대상으로 부모의 양육태도, 아동의 사회적 역량, 학교생활적응 검사를 실시하였다. 변인들간의 관계는 상관분석을 통해 살펴보았고, 부모의 양육태도와 아 동의 학교생활적응의 관계에서 아동의 사회적 역량의 매개효과를 분석하기 위해 위계적 회 귀분석을 사용하였다. 연구결과, 부모의 양육태도 중 돌봄은 아동의 사회적 역량 및 학교생 활적응과 통계적으로 유의미한 정적 상관이 있는 것으로 나타났고, 과보호는 아동의 사회적 역량 및 학교생활적응과 통계적으로 유의미한 부적 상관이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 부모 의 양육태도와 아동의 학교생활적응의 관계에서 아동의 사회적 역량이 부분매개효과를 가지 는 것으로 나타났다. 연구의 의의, 연구의 제한점 및 후속 연구를 위한 제언이 기술되었다.
