In this paper, I will try to compare their lives and works of Kim Hong-do, known by his pen name Danwon, and Francisco José de Goya , the court painters of the two countries. In respect that painting has a personality and historical record of the social image of the day, because with the picture. we can know the writer, culture and historical background of the time, etc. There is similarity between Danwon and Goya on their lives and works from the point that the family that were born poor in that era in transition moving from the Middle Ages to the modern times to the point that they died lonely although they achieved recognition by becoming imperial court painter, that only the best painter can become. But, by focusing on the points that were not discussed comparing Danwon and Goya, I have come to be considered that point as the subject of this study. In the late 18th, there were changes that the emphasis is humanism, the value of all existing countries were destroyed, wealthy emerging with the development of the industry had been formed. Thanks to individual sponsors unrelated with the region has rapidly emerged, artists were able to obtain a wider opportunity of creation. Wealthy merchants and financiers not only were willing to support economically and materially on the artistic activities but also became a spiritual companion, sometimes critic to the artists. Genre painting appeared in the process of the transition to modernity from medieval feudal values​​. Danwon and Goya reflected the modern humanism by expressing in painting the everyday life of the people. They tried to go to the modern rising in revolt against tradition with their individuality and boiling passion. And they also left works by catching the changing times without missing and reflection on their own age. I will try to develop an argument while paying attention to the common aspects that appear in the hierarchy of the profession of imperial court painter, that they shared in the same period of time. In this paper, let's think about the significance of his work as representations of the era and I hope that this opportunity to study Korea-West cultural comparison will be attempted in the future in various fields.

이 논문은 단원 김홍도(金弘道)와 프란시스코 데 고야(Francisco José De Goya)의 작품에 나타난 공 통적인 특징들을 비교･검토한 것이다. 김홍도와 고야는 중세에서 근대로 넘어가는 과도기에 가난했던 가정에서 태어난 것을 시작으로 최고의 화가만이 오를 수 있는 궁중화가가 되어 그 능력을 인정받았으 나 외롭게 생을 마감하기까지 그 생애와 작품에 있어 매우 흡사한 모습을 지닌다. 그러나 조선의 김홍 도와 에스파냐의 고야가 다양한 공통된 성향을 나타냄에도 불구하고 비교 논의되지 않았던 점에 착안 하여 이를 연구의 대상으로 삼게 되었다. 이들이 활동했던 18세기 후반에서 19세기 초반 두 나라는 모두 기존의 가치가 파괴되고 산업 발달에 따른 신흥부유층이 형성되었으며 인본주의가 중시되는 변화를 맞았다. 이것은 지리상의 발견 이후 기 존의 봉건체제가 무너지고 상업과 기술의 발달이 세계주류의 변화를 이끌어 가면서 나타난 현상이라 할 수 있다. 종교와 무관한 개인 후원자들이 급부상했고 덕분에 화가들은 좀 더 폭넓은 창작의 기회를 얻게 되었다. 부유한 상인과 금융업자들은 예술가들이 예술 활동을 하는 데 경제적, 물질적인 지원을 아끼지 않을 뿐만 아니라 예술가들에게 정신적인 동료이면서 때로는 비평가가 되기도 하는 사람으로 떠올랐다. 우리나라와 에스파냐에서도 이렇게 중세의 봉건적 가치관에서 근대로 이행하는 과정에서 풍속화가 등장하게 되었다. 김홍도와 고야는 민중의 일상적인 삶을 그림에 표현하며 근대적 인본주의 를 반영하였다. 자신의 끓어오르는 열정과 개성으로 전통에 반기를 들고 현대로 나아가려했으며 자기 시대를 반성하고 시대의 변화를 놓치지 않고 포착하여 작품으로 남겼다. 본고는 비슷한 시기의 두 화가가 공유한 궁중화가라는 직업의 계층적 측면에서 나타나는 공통점에 주 목하면서 논의를 전개하고자 한다. 시대의 표상으로서 화가와 그 작품이 갖는 의의에 대해 생각해 보 고, 이를 계기로 향후 한･서 문화 비교 연구가 다양한 분야에서 시도될 수 있기를 바란다.
