This consideration is to study about Daegakgyo's problems Yongseong Baek had, who was a highest priest remaining a variety of whereabouts in the space of modern Buddhism. Daegakgyo, the teaching of great enlightenment, was the most important subject among the activity, movement, and reformation of Yongseong Baek. So, there has not been less interests of researchers about it so far. But, they couldn't give acceptable general explanations about dissolution of Daegakgyo developed by themselves since the mid-1930, the switch to Seonjong Chonglim of Joseon Buddhism, and the transition after Yongseong's attainment of Nirvana. As related materials and testimonies which could prove the facts did not exist. I have kept critical mind against such facts for years. Meanwhile, I could find the source recently which could be used as the clue of this matter. It is the 1st material produced by Zen Academy. It holds information about the record of Seonjong Zen practitioners' meeting of Joseon Buddhism, the convention record of Seonjong association of Joseon Buddhism etc. On such conditions, I wanted to reveal the background of Daegakgyo's switch to Seonjong Chonglinm of Joseon Buddhism and the circumstances in this dissertation. For it, I tried to analyze intensively Daegakgyo shown on Yongseong epitaph, dissolution of Daegakgyo and transition, switch to Seonjong Chonglim of Joseon Buddhism, and the related facts with Seon association etc. Through this dissertation, I believed to give a new sight about the latter half of Yongsoeng's life, the change of Daegakgyo, and the connection between Yongseong and Seon association etc. I look forward to having this consideration to be a catalyst for the study of Yongseong Baek, Daegakgyo, and Soen association etc.

본 고찰은 근대불교 공간에서 다양한 행적을 남긴 고승인 백용성의 대각교 문제를 천착하려는 논고이다. 백용성의 활동, 운동, 개혁 등에서 가장 중요한 대상은 大覺敎였다. 그래서 지금껏 이 에 대한 연구자들의 관심이 적지 않았다. 그러나 1930년대 중반 이후에 전개된 대각교의 자진 해체, 朝鮮佛敎 禪宗 叢林으로 개편, 용성 입적후의 변화상 등에 대해서는 보편적인 설명을 하지 못하였다. 이는 그런 내용을 설명할 수 있 는 관련 자료, 증언이 부재하였기 때문이다. 필자는 이런 측면에 대한 문제의식을 수년간 갖고 있었다. 그러다가 최근 이 문제에 대한 단서로 활용할 수 있는 자료를 발굴할 수 있었다. 그는 선 학원에서 생산된 1차 자료이다. 그는 朝鮮佛敎 禪宗 首座大會錄, 조선불교 선종의 禪會 會錄 등 이었다. 이와 같은 전제, 배경하에서 필자는 본고에서 대각교가 조선불교 선종 총림으로 전환된 배경, 전 후사정을 조명하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 필자는 용성비문에 나타난 대각교, 대각교의 자진 해소 와 변천, 조선불교 선종 총림으로 변모, 선학원과의 여러 관련 내용 등을 집중적으로 분석하고자 하였다. 필자는 이 글을 통하여 용성의 후반기 삶, 대각교의 변화, 용성과 선학원과의 연결성 등에 대하 여 새로운 조명을 기할 수 있다고 보았다. 필자의 이 고찰이 백용성, 대각교, 선학원 등의 연구에 일정한 촉매가 되기를 기대한다.
