This study attempted to investigate multicultural immigrants’ real time media use and, based on that investigation, suggest the policy of media use for them. The results of this study were as follows. First, although foreign immigrants including multicultural family enjoyed TV program, particularly drama programs and use cellular phones and PCs frequently, they were almost excluded from the use of smart phones. Second, although they frequently viewed TV programs involving multiculture, it is necessary to support and provide information programs involving child-education TV programs, involving life/job/information for foreign immigrants, multicultural education programs, Korean history and culture programs more often. Third, TV programs should be guided to depict foreign immigrants’ images in more active and positive ways. Fourth, through the enhancement of multicultural education programs, the diversity of multicultural programs, multicultural media education, broadcasting equipment experience and the extension of multicultural ethnic media, it should be equally shared media benefits for foreign immigrants.

이 연구는 다문화 소외계층의 미디어 이용 현황 및 실태 조사를 통해 그들이 현재 어떻게 미디어를 활용하고 있는가를 분석하고, 이를 토대로 다문화교육 활성화의 한 방법으로써 미 디어 활용 정책 방안을 제시해 보고자 했다. 연구 결과, 다문화가정을 포함한 이주외국인들은 TV를 즐겨 시청하며 휴대폰과 PC등을 많이 사용하고 드라마를 즐겨 시청하고 있으나 스마 트폰 이용에 있어서는 거의 소외되어 있었다. 다문화 관련 프로그램을 즐겨 시청하지만 자녀 교육정보 프로그램, 외국인 생활/직업/정보 프로그램, 다문화교육 프로그램, 한국 역사문화 프로그램 등을 더 많이 지원·제작할 필요성이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 프로그램에 나타 난 이주외국인의 이미지를 좀 더 긍정적이고 능동적으로 묘사할 필요가 있으며, 다문화교육 프로그램 강화, 다문화전문방송국 확대, 장비체험 강화, 다문화 프로그램 다양성강화, 미디어 교육 강화 등을 통해 이주외국인들에 대한 미디어 혜택을 공정하게 나눌 필요가 있음을 제언 했다.
