The previous study has elucidated a contrast between modernism and realism in the novels of Park Tae Won. Another study has analyzed the stream of consciousness of the novels’ heroes from the points of tragic and normal life, depressed desire and alienation. The purpose of this study was to illuminate the flaneur motif of the novels of Park Tae Won by focusing on the boundary self, the allegory of solitude involuntary memory. and melancholy. The flaneur GuBo had a boundary position between bourgeois modernity and aesthetic modernity, en-soi snob and pour-soi snob, ethos pathos. He also had an ambivalent sentiment toward city and its masses. The weariness and solitude were thought to be laziness and escape from reality. The author supported the viewpoint that the solitude was lurked in the minds of city masses who had enjoyed vacuous busyness and happiness. This led to ascertaining a allegory of the solitude. The resistance to bourgeois modernity was inherent in the solitude of the alienated heroes in the novels. Ethnic melancholy was found in “A Day of Novelist Gu Bo” while self-contemplation melancholy in “Christmas”. This study illuminated both the relationship among modernity, city, and solitude and the relationship among modernity, city, and melancholy.

선행연구에서는 모더니즘과 리얼리즘의 대비적 관점 혹은 비극적 삶과 일상적 삶, 억압적 욕망과 지식인의 소외라는 측면에서 의식의 흐름을 분석하였다. 본고에서는 박태원 소설의 도시산책자 모티브를 경계적 자아와 고독의 알레고리, 무의지적 기억과 멜랑콜리에 초점을 맞추어 분석하였다. 산책자 구보는 부르주아 모더니티와 미학적 모더니티, 즉자적 속물과 대자적 속물, 에토스와 파토스의 경계에 있는 자이며 도시와 군중에 대해 매혹과 역겨움이라는 양가적 감정을 갖는 자이다. 따라서 경계적 자아라는 측면에서 작품을 분석하였으며 일반적으로 나태함과 현실 도피의 수단으로 인식된 권태와 고독을 분주함과 행복을 누리는 근대사회 군중의 무의식에 잠재된 것으로 해석함으로서 고독의 알레고리를 분석하였다. 주류에서 벗어난 중심인물들을 통해서 표출된 고독은 부르주아 모더니티에 대한 저항의식을 내포하고 있다. 『소설가 구보씨의 일일』에서는 식민지기 지식인 구보를 통해 민족적 멜랑콜리를, 『성탄제』에서는 중심인물 영이를 통해서 부도덕성에 대한 성찰적 멜랑콜리를 발견하였다. 결국 본고는 모더니티-도시-산책자의 상호관련성 하에서 모더니티-도시-고독과 모더니티-도시-멜랑콜리의 상호관련성을 밝히고 있다.
