- Through 3 focus groups and 1 in-depth interview, this exploratory study examined how Koryuin (Russian Korean) women residing in Korea perceive cultural identity, social capital and issues that arise as they transition into the Korean society. The findings reveal that Koryuin women are holding onto their cultural identity as Koryuin because of varying push (e.g., resistance such as cultural practices they do not want to internalize in Korea and Koryuin pride) and pull factors (e.g., desire to assimilate to have more stable life in Korea). Finding of this study also reveal that tight-knit bonding capital with other Koryuin (i.e., insular and weak social capital) and limited exposure and interaction with the mainstream culture and Koreans (i.e., little knowledge on doing things Korean ways) contribute to their fixed identity as Koryuin.

- 본 연구는 질적연구방법을 사용하여 국내에 거주하는 고려인 여성들의 문화정체성, 사회자본 그리고 사회통제를 살펴보았다. 고려인 이주여성들이 자신들의 문화적 정체성을 어떻게 정의하는지, 일상에서 사용되는 사회자본은 무엇이 있으며 어떻게 구축하고 사용하는지, 또한 국내에서 사회화되는 과정 속에서 받는 사회통제를 어떻게 인식하는지에 대하여 포커스그룹과 심층인터뷰를 사용하여 자료를 수집하였다. 연구 결과에 의하면 고려인 여성들은 여러 내적 (예: CIS 러시아에서 고려인으로서 살아온 과거 역사) 및 외적 요소 (예: 받아들이기 거북한 한국문화) 등에 의하여 문화적 정체성을 구축하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 적은 사회자본과 국내인과의 적은 교류 및 편협한 주류 문화의 노출 등이 (즉 적은 사회통제) 이들의 변동이 적은 문화적 정체성에 기여하는 것으로 나타났다.
