‘Novel’ describes ordinary and pitiful lives of urban residents and their lives are so closely connected with ‘Money’. That's why ‘Novel’ and ‘Money’ are both important components of ‘Modernity’. The circulation network of ‘writer-seller(publisher)-buyer(reader)’ had been completed till the late Ming Dynasty in Chinese novel. Ordinary urban residents who were ‘buyers’ could make and save money, And their economic strength made them long for cultural products to their tastes. Therefore novels at the late Ming Dynasty reflect their lives and anxieties faithfully. All those were triggered by ‘Money’ and were accomplished with ‘Money’, so urban residents’s life was having a close relation with ‘Money’. ‘Novel’ is the literature which shows those situations vividly. And ‘SanYan(三言)’ written by Menglong-Feng(馮夢龍) at the late Ming Dynasty is the very classic text during the conventional China. So, I analyzed the function of ‘ Money’ working on the various lives of urban residents in ‘SanYan(三言)’. As a result, I drew the conclusion that ‘Money’ served fearful, ethical function in ‘SanYan(三言)’.
