｢Manboksajeopogi｣ is focused on the story of the special marriage which is very difficult realistically between Yang-Saeng who is a poor old bachelor and a lady who was killed by Japanese pirates. Yang-Saeng relieved desire for marriage by her as it is hard in the reality and the lady also got freedom away from the eternal cycle of birth through marriage with him. She overcomes the guilty by fatalism and their special tie even though she could not be granted permission to marry him by her parents. Yang-Saeng and she realized marriage which is their primary desire and make an attempt to develop reliving resentment by asking for permission to marry him from their parents and relatives. In other words, her parents meet Yang-Saeng and listened to the full story between the two and checked for it on the way to go Boryeon Temple for memorial service. Yang-Saeng and she say farewell with each other as she is confronted with the situation going to the other world because of her lack of karma. But Yang-Saeng holds sincere memorial service using property her parents left that she could cut the eternal cycle of birth. She who gets freedom gives thanks to Yang-Saeng. It could be the last moment of true love. Yang-Saeng lives in retirement and takes up regular work after she left. It means relieve of resentment is realized by fulfilling the desire and love. In conclusion, there are three points about the meaning of relieving resentment in ｢Manboksajeopogi｣. First, ｢Manboksajeopogi｣ takes a role to let an author live for what he wants by relieving author's resentment. Second, there is a resistance to Confucianism centered hierarchy in those days. Third, the belief and the message of true love required to a couple is found in ｢Manboksajeopogi｣.

｢만복사저포기｣는 현실적으로 결혼에 이르기 힘든 가난한 노총각 양생과 왜적에 의해 이미 영혼이 된 귀녀의 결연에 대한 이야기가 중심을 이루고 있다. 양생은 현실에서 이루기 힘든 결혼에 대한 욕망을 귀녀를 통해 풀었으며 귀녀 또한 양생과의 결연을 통해 윤 회에서 벗어나 진정한 자유를 얻게 된다. 그러나 귀녀는 양생과의 결연에 성공했으면서도 부모의 허락을 받지 못한 것에 대한 자각을 강하게 느끼고 있는데, 이는 결국 인연을 앞세운 운명론으로 극복된다. 결연이라는 1차적인 욕망을 실현한 양생과 귀녀는 2차적으로 부모와 친척들의 인정을 받는 과정을 통해 해원 의 확대를 꾀하고 있다. 귀녀의 부모가 보련사에서 제사를 올리기 위해 가는 길에 양생을 만나 전후 사정을 듣 고 이를 확인해 가는 과정이 바로 그것이다. 보련사에서 함께 지낸 양생과 귀녀는 귀녀가 미진한 업보로 인해 저승으로 가야하는 상황에 직면하면서 이별을 맞이했다. 그러나 양생이 귀녀의 부모가 준 재물을 활용해 진심 이 담긴 제사를 지내줌으로써 귀녀는 윤회를 끊을 수 있었다. 자유의 몸이 된 귀녀는 양생에게 감사의 마음을 전하고 있는데, 이는 사랑의 승화라고 할 수 있다. 귀녀가 떠나간 뒤 양생 또한 세상과 단절하고 정업을 닦는 데, 양생과 귀녀의 해원은 결연에 대한 욕망의 실현과 사랑의 승화를 통해 구현되고 있음을 알 수 있다. 한편 ｢만복사저포기｣의 해원에 담긴 의미를 탐색해 보면 첫째, 뒤틀린 현실에서 이루지 못했던 작가의 삶에 대한 회한을 풀어내는 역할을 했다는 점과 둘째, 유교적인 가치관을 중시했던 당시의 지배층에 대한 반발 셋 째, 결혼한 남녀에게 요구되는 믿음과 진실한 사랑에 대한 메시지가 담겨 있음을 알 수 있다.
