- The global environmental problem can not be solved by only one single country. The international cooperation is the most important thing. Nowadays green projects are taking place worldwide. Not only environmental problems but also economy, culture, goverment and many other fields are becoming more and more globalized with the help of technology. In addition to this growth, the global community is becoming more aware of the increasingly apparent problem of the environments condition. This study investigates the need for environmental English education for a sustainable future for the world. After analysis of elementary school English and environment curriculum and contents, set a merged goal of this program. Storytelling is a teaching method that is very effective in Both English and environment education. A developed program was applied to 4th grade elementary school students. They were devided into groups: experimental and control. Comparative analysis through pre-and post-test of the 2 groups shows the influence of the program. The result of the study were as follows. First, development of English storytelling program about environment. Secondly, measuring the environmental groups change in level of literacy with a English storytelling program about environment. Third, measuring English communication with a English storytelling program about environment. Lastly, analyzing the influence of a English storytelling program about environment.

- 본 연구는 초등학교 4학년을 대상으로 영어교과시간에 활용할 수 있는 환경관련 영어 스토리텔링 프로그램을 개발하고 이를 적용함으로써 그 효과를 검증하는 것을 목적으로 수행 되었다. 환경관련 영어 스토리텔링 프로그램은 환경, 영어 교과 모두에 효율적으로 적용 가능한 스토리텔링 교수법을 활용 하였으며 스토리텔링 활동 후에도 주제와 관련된 다양한 게임, 챈트, 그림그리기 등 아동의 흥미를 끄는 활동을 더하여 최종 프로그램을 완성하였다. 프로그램은 8가지 주제로 총 40분 단위 8차시 분량이며 스토리텔링의 주제는 모두 초등환경교육의 내용으로 구성 하였다. 연구 결과, 환경교과 시간이 따로 없는 초등 교육과정에서 영어 수업시간을 활용한 환경관련 영어 스토리텔링 프로그램은 아동들에게 많은 변화를 불러 일으켰다. 또한 초등 영어 시간에 환경내용을 가르치면 영어 실력이 줄지 않겠냐는 주변의 우려를 반증하는 결과로 실험집단과 비교집단의 영어 의사소통 능력이 거의 똑같은 비율로 증가한 것을 알 수 있었다. 이는 환경관련 영어 스토리텔링 프로그램을 통한 영어 실력 변화가 정규수업이 실시되어 일어나는 영어 실력 변화에 비추어 볼 때 별 차이 없이 균등하게 영어 실력을 증진시켜 주었다는 것을 의미한다. 결과적으로 환경관련 영어 스토리텔링 프로그램은 정규영어 수업과 같은 영어 의사소통능력 향상의 효과를 유지하며 그에 더하여 아동의 환경소양까지 증진시켜 준다는 것을 알 수 있다.
