This items analysis of entrance exams for foreign language high schools has been done to investigate types of listening scripts, their topics and questions types. The washback effects of entrance exams of foreign language high schools cannot be underestimated to the lower secondary school English education. To draw attention to the items types of these schools, the paper targeted to analyze listening scripts, inferencing skills required and topics of listening scripts. To analyze the questions, total number of 492 questions have been collected on-line in Seoul metropolitan area between 2001 and 2006. These questions are analyzed in terms of their script types, linguistic complexities, topics and item types by 20 experienced experts of 10 teachers and professors with experiences of having written high stake exams and 10 teachers with experiences of teaching more than five years. The results of analysis are drawn in three ways: 1) The most frequent script type was dialogue followed by discourse, followed by reading-listening and followed by integration. This order of appearance is similar to the previous study; 2) The most frequently dealt topic out of 65 topics was 8.1% of daily life-related dialogue, followed by social life and humanities; 3) The most frequently appeared question types were identifying specific information in the listening material, followed by identifying same/difference in the provided information, followed by finding appropriate answers, followed by summarizing.

외고의 입시문항이 중학교 영어공부에 끼치는 환류효과가 높은 것이 현실이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 2001년에서 2006년 사이에 수도권 지역 외국어고등학교에 출제된 시험 중 온라인으로 구할 수 있는 듣기 492문항을 분석하였다. 분석 방법은 듣기문항의 지문의 종류와 언어적 복잡도, 지문의 소재, 문항의 유형 등으로 나누어서 분석했다. 분석은 외고시험 출제나 수능과 같은 고 부담 시험의 출제 경험이 있는 교사와 교수 10명과 현장교직 경험이 5년 이상인 교사 10명으로 합쳐서 20명의 전문가가 문항을 분석하였다. 분석결과는 듣기문항의 지문 종류는 대화, 담화, 독해, 통합의 순서로 선행연구의 결과와 같았고 언어적 복잡도의 경우는 담화나 대화 지문에서의 어휘 난이도 보다 독해 지문에서 어휘의 난이도와 문장의 복잡도가 더 높았다. 지문의 소재는 일상생활과 관련된 것이 8.2%로 가장 높았고 다음으로 사회와 인문학적 소재가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 문항의 유형은 특정 사실을 맞추거나, 들은 내용 중 맞고 틀린 것을 고르거나, 적절하게 이어지는 할 말을 찾는 등의 간접 말하기 지문과 같은 일반적인 유형 이외에 독해지문과 같이 다양한 실제적인 의사소통 상황을 듣기를 통해 통합적으로 평가하는 문항 등이 있었다.
