This paper is to examine Hakbong Kim, Seongil’s envoy travel literature to China in 1577. Hakbong left his envoy travel records in three styles such as ① in the form of envoy travel poem, ② in the form of long poem being composed of 7 letters per line and ③ in the form of a prose. Chinse poems about envoy travel to China in were 41 pieces in total. And many of them expressed inner conflict between loyalty and filial piety. It was conflict between public duty to complete state affairs and private mind of considering his father in his hometown. However, he indicated his mind trying to obey King’s order by completing his duty as an envoy first. In , he expressed landscape alongside the travel routes from Hanyang to arrival in Beijing and his feelings rhythmically, which enables us to grasp overall outline of envoy travel. In Beijing, he expressed the grandeur of palaces, vibrant look of government officials, plenty of talent in the palace and landscape of morning meetings of envoys from various countries. But his expression of morning meetings of envoys from various countries as ‘King’s meeting’ revealed his limit of worship of the powerful that was common at that time. In , he expressed his Jongkyebyeonmu activities (request to change incorrect record of Lee, Sungkye’s family history?) during his stay in Beijing and examined his experience in China and his recognition distinctively. Actual work of Jongkyebyeonmu activities were mainly performed by Interpreters. But I could confirm that because Hakbong was familiar with government documents, he did the leading role in Jongkyebyeonmu activities. While Hakbong was staying in Beijing, he mainly stayed in his lodging in seclusion because of confinement and endeavored for Jongkyebyeonmu activities. When he returned from his visit to Beijing, Hakbong obtained information about the political situations of China actively. When he saw the old castle of Goguryeo, he felt a sense of history of our old territory. And when he saw broken-down building at Jeonghakseowon, he grasped corruption in the frontier of China and recession of Confucianism. Because of demand of bribe, envoy travel was often delayed. The envoy travel course in Yodong outside of Sanhaegwan at that time was very dangerous roads because of frequent appearance of thieves.

본 논문은 학봉 김성일의 1577년 중국사행기록을 살펴보았다. 학봉은 사행기록을 ①사행시로 되어있는 <朝天錄>, ②7언 장편으로 되어있는 <朝天紀行>, ③산문으로 기록된 <朝天日記>의 세 가지 형태로 남겼다. <朝天錄>에 있는 중국사행 관련 한시는 총 34題 41首로 忠과 孝 사이에서의 내면갈등을 드러낸 작품이 많았다. 나랏일을 완수해야 한다는 공적인 의무감과 고향에 계신 부친을 생각하는 사적인 마음 사이의 갈등이었다. 그렇지만 사신의 업무를 잘 완수한 후 복명숙배 하겠다는 결의를 나타내었다. <朝天紀行>은 한양에서 출발해 북경에 도착하기까지의 연로변의 풍경과 감회를 경쾌하게 읊어 사행의 전체적인 景槪를 파악할 수 있는 장점이 있었다. 북경에서는 궁궐의 웅장함, 관원들의 활기찬 모습, 조정에 인재가 많음, 그리고 각국 사신단의 朝會풍경을 묘사하였는데, 각국 사신단의 朝會를 ‘王會’로 표현하여 당시대의 사대의식의 한계를 노출하기도 하였다. <朝天日記>에서는 북경체류중의 종계변무활동과 이어서 북경 往還중의 중국체험과 인식을 살펴보았다. 종계변무의 실무는 주로 통사를 통해 이루어졌지만 학봉이 章奏文에 능하여 종계변무에서 주도적 역할을 하였음을 崔晛의 기록을 통하여 확인하였다. 학봉은 북경체류시 門禁으로 인해 주로 숙소에서 칩거하며 종계변무에 힘썼을 것으로 추정된다. 북경往還중에는 뇌물요구로 사행길이 지체되기도 하였는데 학봉은 적극적으로 중국정세에 대해 탐문하였다. 고구려의 옛 성에서는 우리 故土에 대한 역사의식을 느꼈고 정학서원에서는 중국 변방의 부패상과 유학의 침체함을 목도하였다. 군사를 내어 호송을 요청할 정도로 당시 산해관 밖 요동사행길은 달적이 수시로 출몰하는 위험한 길이었다.
