Karatani Kojin puts emphasis on such modern discoveries as landscape, internality and children. These three elements have a common point of afterwardsness. Afterwardness has such a meaning that the cart is put before the horse. Landscape and children in their childhood have been there from the beginning, but modern visual main body’s consciousness has come to be aware of their existence retroactively. In his book, 『The Origin of Japanese Modern Literature』, Kojin explained that modern visual main body’s consciousness is the very internality of the main body. Now, the landscape has a reversibility in that it is not an objective landscape but something that must be viewed with a vision in which the main body’s viewpoint is internalized. Kojin argues that the discovery of landscape was done with internality in the new form of unity of speech and writing in Japanese modern literature. However, this study examines it in connection with German Romanticism based on such a fact that Japanese modern literature also originated from German Romanticism’s self-reflective way of thinking. The aim of using this method is to verify the connectivity between Romanticism’s endless self-reflection and cinematic technique of mise en abyme, and then to examine how the main body’s endless repetition of self-reflection comes to have other styles in cinema. In addition, this study examines the connectivity between physical suppression and landscape-oriented sublimity, professed by Michelin Foucault in his 『Surveiller et punir』, in relation to the body, and then analyzes the meaning of landscape viewed by children in their childhood, one of main arguments of this study. A huge landscape viewed by children, namely the visual main body, gives birth to a sense of sublimity. Based on it, this study also looks into the connectivity between sublimity & childhood and community. All the landscape elements aforementioned can be interpreted in the frame of cinema. Cinema functions as a mechanism with which one can experience political and psychological something as well as physical sublimity, namely the size of screen. It is because the landscape displayed on a screen is the storage of memory that reproduces childhood on the whole which is forgotten for the present but definitely experienced by us.

가라타니 고진은 근대가 발견한 것들 중에 풍경과 내면 그리고 아동의 발견을 말하고 있다. 이 세 가지 요소는 사후성이라는 공통점을 갖는다. 사후성이 지니는 의미는 그 뜻의 본말이 전도된다는 데 있다. 풍경과 유년기 의 아동은 원래 그 자리를 지키며 존재했지만 근대의 시각적 주체의 의식이 소급적으로 그 존재성을 의식했다 는 것이다. 여기서 근대의 시각적 주체의 의식은 다름 아닌 주체의 내면성이라고 고진은 그의 저서 󰡔일본 근 대 문학의 기원󰡕에서 설명하고 있다. 풍경은 이제 객관적인 대상으로서의 풍경이 아닌 주체의 관점이 내재된 시선으로만 바라본다는 의미에서 그 전도성을 갖는다. 고진의 주장에 따르면 풍경의 발견이 일본 근대 문학에 서 발생한 언문일치라는 새로운 형식 속에서 내면에 의해 탄생했다고 말하고 있다. 그러나 본고는 일본의 근 대문학의 역시 그 영향을 독일 낭만주의의 자기 반성적 사고에 기인한다는 사실을 바탕으로 독일 낭만주의와 연관시켜 고찰하려고 한다. 이는 낭만주의 무한한 자기반성적 개념과 영화적 기법인 미장아빔과의 연관 관계 를 밝히면서, 주체의 자기반성의 무한반복이 영화에서 어떤 스타일로 변주 되었는가를 알아보기 위해서이다. 또한 신체와 관련하여 미셀 푸코가 󰡔감시와 처벌󰡕에서 주장한 신체의 억압과 풍경이 주는 숭고와의 연관을 고찰하며, 이 글의 주요한 주장인 유년기의 아동이 본 풍경을 의미를 분석한다. 시각적 주체인 아동이 바라 본 거대한 풍경은 숭고라는 감정을 낳는다. 이를 통해 숭고와 유년이 공동체와의 어떠한 연관 관계를 갖는지도 살펴볼 것이다. 앞에서 거론한 모든 풍경들의 요소는 영화라는 틀 속에서 해석할 수 있다. 영화는 정치적이고 심리적인 것을 포함하여 스크린의 크기라는 물리적 숭고까지 경험할 수 있는 장치로 기능하며, 스크린 위에 펼쳐진 풍경은 지금은 잊혀진, 그러나 분명히 우리가 겪었던 유년기를 고스란히 재현하는 기억의 저장고이기 때문이다.
