The purpose of this research is to conduct comparison on the characteristics of middle school invention gifted students and general students. This aims to provide basic data for the development and application of the programs for invention gifted student organizations to determine and select invention gifted students or for the invention gifted students. The results of this research are as follows. First, it was confirmed that, in the mean difference of the group characteristics of middle school invention gifted students and general students, the t-value of all 12 characteristics factors centering on the three big core capabilities of invention gifted students was greater than .96, showing significant differences (p<0.05). This agrees with the results of Lee Jae-ho, et al. (2012) that there are appropriate judgment results from the attempt to examine validity of whether the characteristics factors of invention gifted students, school parents, and teachers agree with invention gifted students’ characteristics. Second, the mean difference of gender characteristics was greater in the general middle school students than in the invention gifted middle school students in more characteristics factors (p<0.05). This shows that the invention gifted middle school students show future-oriented invention gifted student image suitable to the characteristics of invention gifted students regardless of gender but general middle school students show the results according to the characteristics of gender. And regardless of the group, male students showed higher invention gifted student characteristics than female students. Third, the interaction effect of the group and gender did not exist in the entire middle school invention gifted student characteristics and the subordinate three big core capabilities. Only the main effect according to the group and the gender existed in the entire invention gifted student characteristics, inventors’ knowledge and technology capabilities, inventors’ integrated creativity capabilities, inventors’ character capabilities. It is considered that the interaction effect did not appear due to the same tendency as the tendency that male students are higher than female students in the invention gifted student characteristics of all the groups. Thus proper concept of the gifted in invention should be selected in the light of the mean difference of the group characteristics, the mean difference of gender characteristics, and the interaction effect of the group and gender when determining and selecting invention gifted middle school students

이 연구의 목적은 중학교 발명영재와 일반학생의 특성을 비교하여 발명영재 특성에 대해 정확히 이해하는데 있 다. 이는 발명영재 기관에서 발명영재를 판별․선발을 하는 데 기초자료로 제공할 수 있을 것이다. 이 연구의 결과 는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 중학교 발명영재와 일반학생의 집단별 특성의 평균 차이는 발명영재의 3대 핵심역량을 중심으로 12개 특 성요인은 모두 t값이 ±1.96보다 크고 유의한 차이가 있음을 확인할 수 있었다(p<0.05). 이는 발명영재, 학부모, 교사 등을 대상으로 특성요소에 대해 발명영재 특성으로 부합하는가에 대한 타당성 검토를 시도하여 적합한 판 정결과가 있다는 이재호 외(2012)와 일치되는 내용이다. 둘째, 일반 중학생이 발명영재 중학생보다 성별 특성의 평균 차이는 더 많은 특성요소가 유의한 차이가 나타났다 (p<0.05). 이는 발명영재 중학생은 성별과 상관없이 발명영재 특성에 맞는 미래지향적 발명영재상을 나타내고 있지만, 일반 중학생은 성별의 특성에 따른 결과를 보여주고 있다. 또한 집단과 상관없이 남학생이 여학생보다 발명영재 특성이 높게 나타났다. 셋째, 중학교 발명영재 특성 전체와 하위 3대 핵심역량에서 집단과 성별의 상호작용 효과가 존재하지 않았다. 발 명영재 특성 전체와 발명가적 지식기술역량, 발명가적 통합창의 역량, 발명가적 인성역량에서 집단 또는 성별에 따른 주효과만 존재하였다. 이는 집단 모두 발명영재 특성에서 남학생이 여학생보다 높게 나타나는 동일한 경향 성으로 인해 상호작용효과가 나타나지 않은 것으로 해석된다. 따라서 중학교 발명영재를 판별․선발을 실시할 때에는 집단별 특성의 평균 차이, 성별특성의 평균 차이, 집단과 성별의 상호작용의 효과 등을 고려하여 적합한 발명영재상이 선발되어야 할 것이다.
