This study focused on the human nature and the spiritual education in the perspective of holistic education. Holistic education is the education that emphasize relationship and integration. The relationship is the formation of relationship that surrounding with internal self and the external environment. Modernism education is said that human education has failed in making human form relational being. Holistic education that form relationship between self and his/her outer environment is well revealed in EDUCATION 2000/A Holistic Perspectives by GATE: Global Alliance for Transforming Education in 1991. The 10th principle of spiritual education is the basic element of the rest. Human being is a spiritual being and raised by formation of relationship. In educational spot, the era that is honor as only standard to judge student’s ability has passed and EQ, MQ, SQ etc. take center stage. Human being that has naturally wholeness need spiritual education. Spirituality is formed by the formation of relationship with one another. Therefore students living today should be educated as reflective education and stimulated about inter life. Mutual caring and spiritual awakening that modernism education has missed asked for rethinking what human being is.

이 논문은 홀리스틱 교육의 시각에서 인간의 구조적 본성과 왜 영성교육이 필요한지를 논하였다. 이를 위해 먼저 홀리스틱 교육에 있어서 영성 개념과 영성교육은 핵심적이면서 근본 바탕이 되는 개념임을 밝혔다. 아울러 인간의 구조적 본성의 분류와 현대 심리학에서 인간의 존재 차원을 전일성(wholeness)의 시각으로 바라보는 방향으로 전개되어 왔음을 밝혔다. 특히 자아초월심리학은 영적 존재로서의 인간 특성을 살피는 데 의미 있는 심리학적 접근임을 밝혔다. 인간의 전일성을 논하는 데에 있어서 영성은 인간 존재의 핵심이며, 수예로 말하면 밑그림과 같으며, 영성은 자신과 그를 둘러싼 환경과의 관계 지움의 능력이며 그를 통하여 통합성이 형성되는 것임을 밝혔다. 영성은 21세기 교육적 인간상에 있어서 중요한 특징이며, 궁극적인 실제로서 영성 형성과 영적 인간을 양성하는 데에 있어서는 개인과 사회 그리고 전 우주 차원의 거대한 그물망 안에 놓인 연관구조 속에 살고 있는 인간을 살게 하는 것, 그 구조를 가능케 한 것은 영이요 영성임을 밝혔다.
