The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect which taking the liberal arts 'Understanding People with Disabilities' has on Undergraduate students' social proximity to people with disabilities and interpersonal relationship, and examine the change of two dependent variables(social proximity and interpersonal relationship) between the beginning and end of a semester. The results of this study are as follows. First, the social proximity to people with disabilities increased statistically significantly at the end of a semester compared with the beginning of a semester, and the social proximity to people with physical disabilities was higher than that to people with mental retardation. Also, the social proximity to visual impairment and health impairment was higher at the beginning of a semester, whereas the social proximity to hearing impairment and health impairment was higher at the end of a semester. However, the social proximity to mental retardation and autism spectrum disorder was lower both at the beginning and end of a semester. Second, owing to taking the course, Undergraduate students' interpersonal relationship increased at the end of a semester in comparison with the beginning of a semester, which was not statistically significant, but there occurred some correlation and causality between social proximity and interpersonal relationship, which were more statistically significant at the end of a semester than at the beginning of a semester. Lastly, the sub-elements of interpersonal relationship which affected the social proximity to people with disabilities were communication and familarity at the beginning of a semester, whereas such sub-elements were communication and trust at the end of a semester. In light of these results, the course 'Understanding People with Disabilities' was found to have some effect on Undergraduate students' social proximity to people with disabilities and subordinately on Undergraduate students' interpersonal relationship forming their mature human relation. Taking the liberal arts 'Understanding People with Disabilities' was proved to influence fostering the ability for 'interacting in socially heterogeneous groups', one of three competence which OECD presented as required in the rapidly changing period.

본 연구는 교양 과목인‘ 장애인의 이해’ 과목 수강이 대학생의 장애인에 대한 사회적 접근감과 대인 관계에 미치는 영향 및 학기 초와 학기 말의 두 종속변인(사회적 접근감, 대인 관계)의 변화에 대하여 연구하였다. 본 연 구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 장애인에 대한 사회적 접근감은 학기 초 에 비하여 학기말에 통계적으로 의미있게 증가하였으며, 신체적 장애인에 대한 접근감이 정신적 장애인 보다 높았다. 그리고 학기 초에는 시각장애 와 건강장애가 높았으나 학기 말에는 청각장애와 건강장애에 대한 접근감 이 높았다. 그러나 정신지체와 자폐장애는 학기 초와 학기말에도 사회적 접근감이 낮은 장애유형으로 나타났다. 둘째, 과목 수강으로 대학생의 대 인관계 능력은 학기 초에 비하여 학기말에 증가하였으나 통계적으로는 의 미있지는 않았으나 사회적 접근감과 대인관계간에 상관관계와 인과관계 가 나타났으며, 학기 초보다 학기말에 통계적으로 더 의미있었다. 마지막 으로, 장애인에 대한 사회적 접근감 형성에 미치는 대인관계의 하위 요소 는 학기 초에는 의사소통과 친근감이었으나 학기말에는 의사소통과 신뢰 감으로 변화하였다. 이러한 결과로 볼 때,‘ 장애인의 이해’는 대학생의 장애인에 대한 사회적 접근감 증진과 부수적으로 대학생의 성숙한 인간관계를 형성할 수 있는 대인관계에도 어느 정도 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.‘ 장애인의 이 해’ 교양과목 수강은 OECD가 제시한 급격히 변화하는 시대에 요구되는 세 가지 역량 중의 하나인‘ 이질적인 집단과의 상호작용 역량’ 배양에 영 향을 미치는 교양과목이라는 것이 입증되었다.
