Both 『Weather Forecast for Midnight』 and 『City That Never Dies』 written in the middle period of Lee, Hyung-Gi's poetry have criticism on civilization; however, they are related to circularity observed in the two collections of poems. The circulation seen in 『Weather Forecast for Midnight』 can be divided into two categories. One is the circulation that appears through the process of creation and extinction of lives and the other is the circulation of pain that comes from the labor of life. The circulation in 『City That Never Dies』 also presents the circulation of process of creation and extinction of various types observed easily in lives and the circulation of rationality behind the operation of Mother nature. The circulation seen in two collections of poems indirectly criticizes modern civilization through circular structure unlike other poems that criticize civilization directly and functions as a device that brings out modern people's introspection.

이형기의 중기시에 해당하는 『심야의 일기예보』와 『죽지 않는 도시』는 공통적으로 도시 문명에 대한 비판의식을 드러 내고 있는데, 이는 두 시집에 나타나는 순환성과 관련이 있다. 『심야의 일기예보』에 나타나는 순환성은 크게 두 가지 방향으로 나누어진다. 하나는 생명이 생성되고 소멸되는 과정을 통 해 드러나는 순환이며, 다른 하나는 삶의 노역에서 오는 고통의 순환이다. 『죽지 않는 도시』에 나타나는 순환성 역시 삶 속에서 쉽게 발견할 수 있는 다양한 형태의 생성 및 소멸 과정의 순환과 대자연의 운행 속에 감추어진 순리의 순환으로 나타 난다. 두 시집에 나타나는 순환성은 직접적으로 문명을 비판하는 시들과는 달리 순환 구조를 통해 간접적으로 현대문명을 비판하 고 있으며, 비판을 통해 현대인의 성찰을 이끌어내는 장치로서 기능하고 있다.
