Our traditional way of looking at liturgy has often limited our efforts to revitalize it. Liturgy has come to be dominated by over-concern for the idea of so called, orthodoxy. This has tended to produce a sense of liturgy that is tied to word and emphasizes narrowed, single line of tradition. It tends to be monolithic and rigid view and creates an environment in which creative interaction with the culture and the lives of the people is proscribed. This predisposition towards a particular view of liturgy has influenced the way in which we have read the ancient texts. The Eucharist that most Protestants churches in Korea perform has already lost its vitality and worse, forgotten its significance and forms. The initiation of Christian assembly or church in the history has deep connection with the composition procedure of the Eucharist, and the root of the Eucharist lay upon the Jewish meal and prayer. However early christian communities produced new branches and twigs through the Eucharist, and finally new fruit, church. The study of the Eucharist has to begin with the concern about the beginning of the church. This article starts with the appearance of Jesus after resurrection, maintains its direction to the recomposition of the Last Supper based on the disciples' remembrance, and reaches the conclusion in which the reason why Lord's Supper had to be transformed to church's eucharistic ceremony is expounded.

예배를 바라보는 우리의 전통적 방식은 예배의 생명력을 오히려 경감시키는 방향으로 전환되고 있다. 예배는 전통에 대한 집착과 정통에 대한 몰이해로 초기 교회의 창조적이고 다문화적인 역동성을 잃어가고 있다. 그런 면에서 성찬이 가진 유대적 전통과 초기 교회의 다양한 실험적 적용들은 현대 교회가 다시금 되돌아보아야 할 교회의 자산이며 지침이다. 본 글의 목적은 마지막 만찬과 주의 만찬의 시각에서 성찬이 어떤 변화의 과정을 거쳐 왔는지 살피는 것이다. 그러기 위해 본 글은 우선 성찬의 근본적인 개념인 “나타남”을 출발점으로 삼아, 유월절 식사의 의미를 이해하고, 그 다음에는 예수의 제자들이 이해한 마지막 만찬의 형식을 예식화하는 과정을 다루었으며, 마지막으로 마지막 만찬에서 주의 만찬으로 전환되는 예전적 전통과 교회론적 의미를 기술했다.
