Picture book authors relay their intendedmessage through target images and colors. Color is as important as image in story tellingof picture books. This study looked into how some fantasypicture books with non-preferred colors wereaccepted by infants First, precedent studieswere reviewed to find out the colors acceptedby children. Second, since 'Cloud Bread' is afantasy genre, fantasy books and childrenstories were reviewed. Third, the colors of'Cloud Bread' are analyzed to study the colorcomposition. According to the results of the analysis, itappears that the reason why 'Cloud Bread' isaccepted by children is that dark colors areunderstood with fantasy storytelling, and thatthe colors in 'Cloud Bread' are effective inunderstanding the picture book. This studysuggests a conclusion that it is not whetherbright or dark but the harmony of colors forkids to accept picture books. Some of the kids' recognition of colors isnatural but is mostly formed by adults. Inorder to develop their color sense, variouscolors depending on the story should be usedin picture books. I hope that through thisstudy people can have a new understanding ofcolors preferred by kids.

그림책 작가는 의도하는 메시지와 의미 전달을 대상 이미지와 색채를 통해서 보여준다. 그림책에서의색채는 이 미지와 더불어 내용에 못지않게 스토리텔링을 이해하는데 중요한 역할을 한다. 본 논문에서는 유아용 그림책에서 유아들이 선호하지 않는 색채를 사용한 ‘구름빵’ 그림책이 유아들에게 수용된 원인을 연구하고자 하였다. 첫째, 기존의선행 연구 조사를 통해 유아 색채 선호도를 알아보았다. 둘째, ‘구름빵’ 이 판타지 장르이므로 판타지와동화에 대해 살펴보았다. 셋째,‘구름빵’의 색채를분석하여 색채 구성을 살폈다. 분석결과‘구름빵’이 유아들에게 수용된 이유는어두운 색채를 판타지적 스토리텔링으로 이해하였으며, ‘구름빵’ 의 색채는 그림책의 내용을 이해하기에 효과적이었음을 확인하였다. 따라서 유아용 그림책의 색채 선호도는 밝 고 어둠의 차이가 아닌 색채의조화로움 이라는 결론을 얻었다. 유아들의 색에 대한 인지는 타고난 천성부분도 있지만 어른들에 의해 만들어진다. 유아들의 색채 감각을 키우 기 위해서 스토리에 따른 다양한 색채를 그림책에 적용시켜야만 한다. 이 연구로 인하여 유아용그림책 제작 시 유아 선호 색채에 대해 새롭게 인식할 수 있는 계기가 되었으면 하는 바람이다.
