This is the study to check the effects of the cooperative mandala to improve empathy and peer relations of the institutionalized children. Study subjects are those children in J-child-care- institution of D-city who have difficulty to adapt to the institution and the school they attend, especially with peer relations, and who marked low scores on the empathy test. The structure of the study program is composed of 4 phases of inducing, changing, integrating, and closing in each therapy session. The program itself consists of a total of 8 sessions in J-institution from January 4th to January 29th, twice in each week on Tuesday and Friday with each 120 minute session of 2pm through 4pm. In order to investigate the effects of the study program, adopted are the measures of empathy and peer relations for pre- and post-tests to be compared and analyzed. The study results are as follows. First, there shows statistically a significant change on the empathy test(t=-58.78, p<.001) with pre-test score M=39.20 and post-test score M=116.00. Second, there displays a meaningful difference on peer relations(t=- 47.35, p<.001) with pre-test score M=48.60 and post-test score M=126.60.

본 연구는 시설아동을 대상으로 공감능력 향상과 또래관계 개선을 위하여 협동만다라 작업의 효과를 검증하고자 하였다. 연구의 대상은 D시에 소재한 J아동보육시설로 시설아동들이 시설 에서나 학교에서 또래관계가 어려워 부적응을 겪는 아동 중 공감능력을 검사한 결과 점수가 낮은 아동들이다. 본 연구의 프로그램 구성은 각 회기마다 유도단계, 변환단계, 통합단계, 마 무리 단계인 4단계로 이루어졌다. 프로그램진행은 기관의 규정상 1개월에 8회기의 프로그램 으로 되어 있어, 2009년 1월 4일부터 2009년 1월 29일까지 주 2회 총 8회기를 화요일, 금요일 오후 2시부터 4시까지 실시하였다. 매 회기의 진행시간은 120분으로 D시 J보육시설의 집단 학습실에서 실시하였다. 프로그램의 효과 검중을 위하여 공감능력척도와 또래관계척도를 사 전, 사후 실시하여 변화를 비교 분석하였다. 본 연구의 결과를 통해 얻어진 결론은 다음과 같 다. 첫째, 시설아동의 공감능력(t=-58.78, p< .001)은 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 나타났으며, 사전 점수가 M=39.20에서 사후 점수 M=116.00으로 점수가 증가하였다. 둘째, 시설아동의 또 래관계(t=-47.35, p<.001)가 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 나타났다. 사전점수가 M=48.60에서 사 후점수 M=126.60으로 증가하였다.
