This is a basic study to develop tourist attractions and to compose tourist maps of urban central commercial areas. For the study, an analysis was conducted about characteristics of actual use of downtown street tours focused on Cheongju Seungan-gil. A survey of the actual use range and assesment factors of downtown street tours through Korean and Japanese college students’ practical experiments produced following results. First, about two-hour courses were proper for downtown street tours and the interest level and concentration depending on sections dropped following time passages. Therefore, in composition of street tour courses, it is necessary to make effective composition considering such time units, instead of unlimited lengthening, and to prepare plans to raise users’ interest and concentration. Second, in actual use of downtown street tours, street safety, high levels of hygiene, liveliness and information are as important as various experiences and cultural activities. Japanese students, in particular, were highly sensitive about street safety and tourism information. In consequence, fundamental factors, such as street safety, hygiene, liveliness and kindless, should be taken into account, as well as factors directly necessary for tourism activities, in composition of downtown street tours. In addition, there should be consideration for pedestrians’ safety and tourism information to handle foreign tourists.

본 연구는, 도시 중심상업지역의 관광개발 및 관광맵 구성을 위한 기초 연구로서, 청주시 성안길을 대상으로 도심 스트리트 투어의 실질적인 이용특성을 분석한 것에 있다. 한일대학생들의 실질적 실험을 통해 도심 스트 리트 투어의 실제적인 이용범위와 평가요소 등을 조사한 결과, 다음과 같은 결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 첫째, 도심 스트리트 투어 코스로 적합한 이용범위는 약2시간 정도로 나타나며, 구간에 따른 관심도 및 집중도 는 시간의 경과에 따라 떨어지는 것으로 나타난다. 따라서 스트리트 투어의 코스구성에 있어서는 무한적인 연 장보다는 이러한 시간적 단위를 고려한 임팩트한 구성과, 이용자의 관심도 및 집중도를 높이기 위한 방책이 필 요한 것으로 판단되다. 둘째, 도심 스트리트 투어의 실제적인 이용에 있어서는 다양한 체험과 문화활동 못지 않게 거리의 안전과 위생 상태, 활기, 정보안내 등이 중요한 것으로 확인되며, 특히 일본학생들의 경우는 이러한 거리의 안전 및 관광정 보 등에 보다 민감한 것으로 나타난다. 따라서 도심 스트리트 투어의 구성에 있어서는 직접적인 관광활동에 필 요한 요소뿐만 아니라 거리의 안전, 위생, 활기, 친절과 같은 보다 근본적인 요소에 대한 배려가 필요하고, 특히 외국인관광객에 대응해 가기 위해서는 보행자의 안전과 정보안내 등에 대한 배려가 필요한 것으로 판단된다.
