- This paper is aimed at the analysis of the acceptation of Buddhism of Japan and the formation of Japanese style Buddhism from the view of religious sociology. Generally, it is said that Buddhism was localized in Japan since the Kamakura period. This paper tries to deal with the acceptation of Buddhism of Japan and the formation of Japanese style Buddhism by the viewpoint of the history of struggle between naive faith and transmitted faith. First, I take up the feature of the Mahayanist Buddhism transmitted in Japan. Second, I solve the position of Japan that accepted Buddhism in relation to the international politics situation of those days. In the next, I interpret the process of Japanese Buddhism which had been secularized from institutionalized faith system in relation to a social situation of those days. Finally, I analyze the process of Japanization of the Buddhism as an history of formation of popular religion and religious group.

- 本稿は、日本への仏教伝来と日本仏教の成立についての宗教社会学的なアプローチをして分析するものである。一般的に、日本で仏教が土着化したのは、鎌倉時代になってからといわれている。本稿では、このような日本での仏教の受容と成立を、土俗信仰(神道)と外来信仰との争いの歴史として取り扱おうとする。先ずは、日本に伝来された大乗仏教の特徴をとりあげる。次には、仏教が日本に伝わるに関わった当時の国際政治的状況と関連して、仏教受容における日本の立場を解明する。三つ目には、日本仏教が制度内から世俗化される過程を、社会的状況と関連して分析する。最後に、日本での仏教の日本化の過程を、民衆化、信仰集団化の歴史と関連して分析する。
