Social life centered multicultural education curriculum model in the social studies was proposed in this paper. Purpose of this study is to produce social life centered multicultural education curriculum model of the social studies that can help students be able to become good citizen in Korean multicultural society. In order to achieve my purpose, firstly, direction of the social studies education to cope with issues of Korean multicultural society was pointed out. Secondly, to develop social life centered multicultural education curriculum model of the social studies, social life centered the social studies, multicultural education approach were discussed. Also the structure and definition of the social life centered multicultural education for the social studies were made on the basis of multicultural education point of view. Thirdly, four kinds of scopes(Knowledges, skills, values, social actions) for social life centered multicultural education of the social studies were produced. Fourthly, social life centered multicultural education curriculum model of the social studies was developed in the basis of the scopes. In conclusion, social life centered multicultural education curriculum in the social studies education should focus on knowledges(social functions, social role, social conflicts, stereotypes, prejudice, discrimination, social and cultural characteristics etc), skills(inter-cultural comprehension·interaction, interpretation in the multiple point of view, conflict resolution, inquiry, decision making etc), and values (self·society identity, respecting human right, sense of coexistence, openness, acceptance, tolerance·caring, patriotism· globalism etc) to help students be good citizen in Korean multicultural society.

이 연구는 사회과 생활중심 교육, 한국 다문화 사회의 쟁점, 다문화교육 등에 대한 논의를 바탕으로 새로운 형 태의 사회과교육과정 모형 즉 사회과 생활 중심 다문화교육 교육과정 모형을 제시하고, 이를 바탕으로 학교 교 과교육 차원에서 한국 다문화 사회 문제의 대응에 기여하는 데 목적이 있다. 연구의 목적 달성을 위한 내용은 다음과 같다. 먼저, 사회과 생활 중심 ‘다문화교육’ 교육과정 모형 개발을 위한 논의로서 한국 다문화 사회의 쟁점 대응을 위한 학교 사회과교육 교육과정의 방향, 사회과 생활 중심 교육, 다 문화교육 접근을 통한 사회과 생활중심 다문화교육의 구조와 정의 등을 서술하였다. 둘째로, 사회과 생활중심 다문화교육 교육과정 목표 영역별 준거를 모색하였다. 셋째로, 목표 영역별 준거를 기초로 사회과 생활 중심 다문화교육 교육과정 모형을 개발하여 제시하였다. 끝으로. 사회과 생활 중심 다문화교육 교육과정의 연구 및 적용 방향을 제시하였다. 결론적으로 사회과교육에서는 생활 중심 다문화교육 교육과정의 운영을 위하여 한국 다문화 사회 문제 대응을 위한 지식(사회기능과 사회적 역할, 사회갈등 문제, 고정관념·편견·차별 문제, 다문화 집단의 사회·문화적 특성 등), 기능(문화 간 이해·상호작용, 다양한 관점 해석, 갈등문제 해결, 탐구·의사결정 등의 사고 기능 등), 가치( 자아·사회 정체성, 인권 존중, 공존의식, 개방·수용의식, 관용, 공감·배려, 애국심·세계주의 등) 등에 초점을 두 는 것이 바람직하다고 본다.
