The only one vocal art that can be compared to Opera, the west high level vocal one, is Korean Pansori (판소리). However, Changgeuk (창극) that is the modern performance form derived from Pansori has not been successful one over a hundred years in history since 1902. Although Yeoseong-Gukgeuk (여성 국극) that was a performance derived from Pansori too had been a very succesful one, though in the form of popular art in the era of 1950s after the jackpot of the work "The Sun and the Moon"(1949). Park, Gwi-Heui (1921~1993) had participated and gotten major roles at Changgeuk, and Yeoseong-Gukgeuk so both can be called 'Gukgeuk' from 13 years old 1934, she was a girl singer at Daedong-Gageuk Company (대동가극 단), to 66 years old, she got a role of the mother of Turtle at the work "Rabbit and Turtle" as a member of National Changgeuk Company (국립창극단). Her lifetime of Gukgeuk will be able to be divided into 3 times, the time of the Civil Changgeuk Company, dirived from Hyeopryulsa (協律社, 협률사) 1902, Joseon Vocal Arts Research Academy (조선성악연구회) 1934, the time of Yeoseong-Gukgeuk Companies, started from Woman Traditional Musicians' Club (여성국악동호회) 1948, and the time of National Changgeuk Company, started from 1962. Absolutely the culmination of her Gukgeuk activities is the Sun Prince role at the work "the Sun and the Moon"(1949). We can say that "the Sun and the Moon" has been the most successful work in the history of Gukgeuk, and Park, Gwi-Heui got the most important role at that work. So we dare to say that if it were not for her, there was not the work "the Sun and the Moon" itself. Her role of the Sun Prince was in the line of her former hero roles (male protagonists) that are One-Eyed General at "One-Eyed General", Matdongbang (맛동방) at "Princess Seonhwa (선화공주)", Heungbo at "Heungbo-jeon (흥보 전)", Lee Lad (이도령) at "Chunhyang-jeon", and so on. She had been excellent at hero roles. Afterward, though Park, Gwi-Heui had participated as a member of Companies in the field of Gukgeuk, especially National Changgeuk Company (1962~1987), the achievements at these Companies activities were not significant compare to the ones before and after "the Sun and the Moon". She made new achievements at the oversea performances, the establishment of Traditional Music High School, and the player of Gayageum-Byeongchang (가야금병창) instead. The current Changgeuk that still doesn't become successful performance should take something through the ups and downs of Park, Gwi-Heui' activities in the field of Gukgeuk.

서양의 고급 성악예술인 오페라에 비견될 수 있는 세계에서 유일한 성악예술은 우리 나라의 판소리다. 그러나 이러한 판소리 계통의 근대적 공연물인 창극은 1902년 이래의 백 년이 넘는 역사 속에서도 아직 성공적인 공연물이 되지 못하고 있다. 다만 비록 대중 예술의 형태로나마 역시 판소리 계통의 근대적 공연물인 여성국극이 1949년 <햇님과 달 님>의 대성공 이후 1950년대 한 시대의 성공적인 공연물로 흥행했을 뿐이다. 박귀희는 1934년 13세 때인 대동가극단의 소녀 명창 시절부터 1987년 66세 때 국립창 극단의 <토끼타령>의 별주부모역에 이르기까지 거의 일생 동안 창극, 여성국극 등 이른 바 국극을 접했고 또 주요 역들을 맡았다. 이러한 그녀의 전 생애에 걸친 국극 활동들은 1902년 협률사와 1934년 조선성악연구 회 계통의 민간 창극단 시절, 1948년 여성국악동호회로부터 시작된 여성국극단 시절, 1962년부터 시작된 국립창극단 시절로 나누어 볼 수 있다. 이 중 박귀희 국극 활동의 정점은 당연히 1949년에 공연된 여성국극 <햇님과 달님>의 ‘햇님왕자’로서의 박귀희가 될 것이다. 우리나라 국극사에 가정 성공적인 작품으로 <햇님 과 달님>을 들 수 있고, 박귀희가 그 작품의 가장 중요한 역인 햇님왕자역을 맡았다는 것은 박귀희가 아니었다면 <햇님과 달님>과 같은 작품이 이뤄질 수 없었을 것이란 설명 도 가능하게 해 준다. 박귀희는 이미 <일목장군>, <선화공주>, <흥보전>, <춘향전> 등에 서 남자 주인공인 일목장군, 맛동방, 흥보, 이도령 등을 맡아왔고 그 연장선상에 <햇님과 달님>의 햇님왕자가 있었던 것이다. 박귀희는 이후 여성국극단, 민간 창극단, 국립창극단 등 여러 곳들에서도 여전히 국극 인으로 일정하게 참가하고 있지만, <햇님과 달님> 전후 무렵의 국극사적 의의에 비할 정 도는 아닌 것 같다. 대신 해외에서의 공연 활동, 국악예술고등학교 설립, 가야금병창 활 동 등 그 외 그녀만이 제대로 할 수 있는 새로운 업적들을 쌓아갔다. 아직도 성공적인 공연물이 되지 못한 현재의 창극은 박귀희의 이러한 국극에서의 활 동들과 그 취함과 버림의 행적들을 돌아보며 오늘날에도 취할 바는 분명히 취해야 할 것 이다.
