This paper is to analyze Translation and commentary on the “Notes on the use of a book(｢凡例｣)” in Comprehensive Bibliography of Sago Collections(｢四庫全書總 目提要｣), and also In order to understand the function of “The Comments(案語)”. The ‘Notes on the use of a book’ refer to the words that illustrate the selection standards, presentation style and content scope of the script, in front of Comprehensive Bibliography of Sago Collections. As the important part of “the analysis”, it account as a whole for the stylistic rules of the whole book, which shows its pros and cons. It conduce toward a better in-depth study on “the analysis” to analyse those pros and cons. In this paper, have interpreted the twenty kinds of “Notes on the use of a book” and translate with explanatory notes. “Notes on the use of a book” have a variety of functions, analysis and in many respects it was classified. “The Comments(案語)” illustrates, supplies and researches the departments of cases attached by rules which are not explained in Comprehensive Bibliography of Sago Collections. “The Comments” lies here and there attached to in have important contents and valus of style, which play a very important role in the following five aspects: interpreting or supplying “Notes on the use of a book”, and interpreting or supplying “Writing ideas”, and supplying introductions to “Analysis and commentary of the book”, and introducing “Classification of an item proving”, and interpreting to “Scholar of the origin and changes”, and supplying introductions to “authenticity of a document”. “The Comments” had a role, such as blood vessels in the body, and were connected to each other, and also embodying the Comprehensive Bibliography of Sago Collections in systematic in another way.

본고는 ｢四庫全書總目提要(총목)｣의 ‘범례’의 역주와 함께 ‘案語’를 분석하는 것에 있다. ｢총목｣의 ‘범례’는 권두에 편재되었고, ｢四庫全書｣에 수록된 도서에 대한 수록의 원칙, 편목 의 배열과 저록의 체례 등을 총체적으로 설명했다. ｢총목｣의 ‘범례’란 ｢사고전서｣의 편찬과 도서 해제의 준거를 제시하는 가장 핵심적인 부분이며 ‘서지통정(Bibliographic control)’의 청사진이다. 본고의 목적은 ｢총목｣의 이해를 심화하고, “체계서지학”의 중국적 특성으로 불리는 “目錄學”의 특성과 핵심을 구성하는 문헌해제의 체례를 ‘범례’와 ‘안어’를 통해 이해 하는 것이다. 이를 위해 ｢凡例二十則｣을 상세한 주석을 통해서 완역하고, ｢총목｣의 편찬체 례와 저록의 수집과 분류 방법, 그리고 서목의 배열방식과 편찬과정의 대강을 밝혔다. ｢凡 例二十則｣은 ｢총목｣ 서두에 위치해 ｢총목｣의 전체 체례를 설명하는 일종의 ‘일러두기’에 해당한다. ‘범례’는 전서의 체례를 총괄적으로 설명하면서, 동시에 ｢총목｣에 도서의 저술원 칙, 도서의 수록기준, 著錄과 存目, 類目의 배열, 子目의 설치 등을 종합적으로 설명을 했다. ‘범례’는 중국 목록학 문헌 해제의 특성 외에도 原書의 流傳을 고증하여 善本과 足本 및 通行本을 엄선한 ‘원문서지학’과 ‘형태서지학’적 요소를 모두 보유했고, 이를 통해 종합적 성격의 목록 저술인 ｢총목｣의 성격을 체계적으로 분석했다. ‘안어’는 ‘범례’의 기능 중에 미진한 곳을 보완, 보충하면서 ｢총목｣의 체례를 주석의 형태 로 부연 설명했다. ‘범례’를 구성하는 ‘저술사상’․‘도서변위’․‘유례논증’․‘도서해제’․‘학 술기원’의 범주를 소통을 통해 긴밀한 관계를 맺도록 기능했던 것이 바로 ‘안어’였다. 중국목록 학의 구성 요소 중 ‘안어’의 역할이 다소 과소평가 되었던 원인은 아마도 고정된 체례나 사용 사례가 불규칙하고 정형적인 형식이 없었기 때문으로 보인다. 篇目․敍錄․解題․總 序․小序 등이 커다란 바위로 비유한다면 ‘안어’는 이런 바위들이 더 견고하게 지탱할 수 있도록 돕는 모래와 자갈, 혹은 진흙으로 비유할 수 있겠다. ｢총목｣에서 구현되고 있는 考據 學의 학풍은 실은 5가지 영역에서 구체적으로 안어를 통해 그 진가를 발휘하고 있다는 점이 다. 이점을 고려하면 앞으로 ‘안어’의 연구는 더욱 풍부해 질 것으로 판단된다.
