This study analyzes on the Prajna Paramita Sutra printed with tile block plates. The major findings are as follows: (1) Usually, it is known that the block printing precedes the type printing, but not every country has the same process. (2) Tile block plates are the boards for printing books. They are made of soils like powdered tiles, clays, china clays, and mortars. After plates are made, letters and pictures are carved on their surfaces in the reverse direction of the letters’ own shapes, and then those carved plates are baked as tiles or bricks. (3) In Korea, the information about the technique of printing with tile block plates is sparse. It is assumed that there was no need to spread tile block printing at that time. (4) In this study, analyzed are the tile block plates of Prajna Paramita Sutra translated by Hyunjang in the Tang Dynasty. The place and date of making this tile block plate and its maker are unidentified. (5) The tile block plate of Prajna Paramita Sutra was possibly made by a Japanese in Korea during the Japanese occupation period, or brought into Korea from Japan or China. So far, the tile block plate of Prajna Paramita Sutra seems to have no great academic and cultural values.

본 硏究는 ｢般若波羅蜜多心經｣ 瓦版에 관하여 考察한 것으로 그 結果를 要約하면 다음과 같다. (1) 印刷術은 版印刷術이 活字印刷術보다 先行되었으나, 各國마다 劃一的으로 各種 의 版印刷術이 活字印刷術보다 先行하여 發展한 것만도 결코 아니다. (2) 瓦版은 瓦土․粘土․瓷土․膠泥 등의 각종 土壤으로 版型을 만들어 그 위에 文字 나 그림 등을 反對로 彫刻하여 기와나 벽돌처럼 구워낸 印出用 冊版을 의미하는 것이다. (3) 韓國의 瓦版印刷術에 관한 根據資料는 매우 不足하며, 혹은 韓國에서는 瓦版印刷 術의 普及自體가 必要하지 않았던 事案이 아닌가 한다. (4) 본 硏究對象의 瓦版은 唐朝의 玄奘이 漢譯한 ｢般若波羅蜜多心經｣의 瓦版으로 製作地․製作處(者)․製作年度 등이 不明하다. (5) ｢般若波羅蜜多心經｣ 瓦版은 日帝强占期에 韓國에서 日人에 의하여 製作되었거 나 혹은 日本이나 中國에서 製作되어 國內로 流入되었을 可能性도 없지 않으며, 學術的․文化財的 側面에서 그 價値가 그다지 높지 않은 것으로 評價된다.
