In this study, the present condition of ‘The Awakening of Faith in Mahayana(大 乘起信論)’, one of the basic Buddhist scriptures and ‘Four text sutras’ of Korean Buddhism, and its commentaries among the Dunhuang manuscripts scattered in the United Kingdom, France, and China are investigated. And any changes in the contents were examined by comparing its first edition, the second edition(再雕本), and the edition of Bangsanseoggyeong(房山石經). A comparison of the Dunhuang edition of ‘The Awakening of Faith in Mahayana’ with the second edition(再雕本) and the edition of Bangsanseoggyeong(房山石經) showed some omissions, additions and inversions of the contents, and the use of characters in different styles in the Dunhuang edition. By comparing Wonhyo's commentary on ‘The Awakening of Faith in Mahayana’ and ‘Daejeong Sinsu Daejanggyeong(大正新修大藏經. Daizokyo)’, some omissions, new additions and the characters in different styles were also found.

이 연구는 영국과 프랑스, 중국 등 여러 나라에 散在해 있는 敦煌 문헌 중에서 불교종파 의 기본적 문헌이자 한국 불교의 所依經典 四敎科 중 하나인 ｢大乘起信論｣과 그 註釋書 의 현황을 파악하여 初雕本과 再雕本, 房山石經 등과 對校를 통하여 내용의 변화를 살펴 본 것이다. 敦煌本 ｢大乘起信論｣을 재조본․방산석경과 대교한 결과, 내용이 생략되었거나 새로 추가된 경우와 倒置 및 異體字의 형태로 되어 있다. ｢大乘起信論｣의 주석서로 元曉가 編纂한 ｢起信論疏｣와 大正新修大藏經을 대교한 결과, 省略되었거나 追加된 경우와 異體 字 등으로 파악되었다.
