The purpose of this experimental study is to restore the beeswax casting method, which was used during the Goryeo Dynasty, and firmly establish the theoretical validity of this traditional method. The major findings are as follows: (1) When the materials of burying mold, which consist of mudstone(60%), yellow soil(30%), and sandy soil(10%), are properly mixed with water, the success rate of molding metal movable types could be greatly improved. (2) The success rate could be also improved, when a mold is naturally dried on the well-ventilated spot in the shade more than five days, and heated at temperature between 800°∼1,000°. (3) Metal materials were good for casting and using metal movable types, when bronze(9:1) are properly used. (4) The method of pouring naturally melted bronze into the mold could be used. (5) The success rate of casting metal movable types is 100% as the result of this experiment. (6) It might be possible that Jikji was printed with metal movable types, which were made with this beeswax casting method.

본 實驗硏究는 高麗時代 蜜蠟鑄造法의 復元을 圖謀하고 나아가 蜜蠟鑄造法의 定說 을 構築하고자 硏究된 것으로 그 核心의 內容은 다음과 같다. (1) 泥岩 60%, 黃土 30%, 모래 10% 등을 물과 混合한 埋沒材料를 사용할 경우 金屬活 字鑄造의 成功率을 높일 수 있었다. (2) 鑄型을 通風이 잘되는 陰地에서 5日 이상의 自然乾燥하여 800°∼1,000°로 燒成할 경우 金屬活字鑄造의 成功率을 높일 수 있었다. (3) 金屬材料는 一般 靑銅(9:1)을 사용할 경우 金屬活字의 鑄造와 活用에 좋았다. (4) 靑銅 쇳물을 注入하는 方法은 自然注入法만으로도 可能하였다. (5) 實驗을 통한 金屬活字鑄造의 成功率은 100%로 나타났다. (6) ｢直指｣는 蜜蠟鑄造法으로 鑄成된 金屬活字로 印出되었을 可能性이 排除될 수 없다.
